hi chaps, my daughter has had her W Reg Terrano for about 15 months, she is now getting to be wanting a (single disc) CD Radio to replace the original Cassette radio.

Can i ask the members what is the best way to tackle this task.

Of course i realise i have to get a suitable CD Radio but i believe the connector into the wiring harness will be different ! is this correct, a Japanese car breaker fella told me that.

I guess i have to get a mounting assembly kit as well, maybe this has a connecting plug convertor included ?.

I thought for starters it best to ask on here first, just in case somebody else has been there and already done that.

Am i on the right track, i guess i am the one who is gonna have to do it when all is said and done.

As far as I know, there are two dash board types, one takes a conventional radio, and has the Hazard warning light switch in a panel under the radio, along with the cup holder and heated rear window, the other has the Hazard warning switch in the corner of the actual radio.

The former is easy, and just needs a conversion lead, which can be purchased easily from Halfords or Ebay.

The latter is a bit harder, and you will need to do a bit of cutting and fileing, plus buy or make some form of panel that allows the radio to be fitted, and also gives you somewhere to mount a new hazard switch.

Thank you friend, i put my Search Engine skills to good use and found a shop on eBay where i can get the stuff i need (if the latter) but at a whopping price of £114 !! so now i have to have a look at the motor to see what sort i need i fear it will be the latter, and if i am paying ?, i perhaps wont bother LOL.

Then just tune the radio in ;-)

Not sure what ever happened to it, but I used to have an electronic cassette that slotted into the player, and had a jack plugged lead coming out of it. We used to connect it to the CB radio, so you could hear it more clearly through the car speakers, but it was sold to allow you to plug a portable CD player into it. Great and cheap device.

Thank you lads for all your replies, cheeky buggers, charging £15 more on ebay, i suppose that is to compensate for ebay charges LOL.

Thanks also for the alternatives, gives food for thought, thanks chaps.

I must admit I just toddled down to my local & reliable car audio shop and bought a new head unit. They fitted it for free, including modding the previous owner's abortive attempt at wiring.

For reference they are Huets Car Audio at Heene Road in Worthing. Not much use to most of the members of this forum, but there ya go :D
