What is it and why?

I've been searching for an annoying rattle for the better part of a year now and finally traced the cause :thumbs

Behind the airbag module in the steering wheel hub I found this:-

It should be suspended on 4 rubber arms, 2 of which remain, the other 2 had perished and broken, hence the rattle.

It seems to be some sort of inertia device, possible something to do with the airbag. Removal has not caused any adverse effects and has cured the rattle :clap

Any ideas as to function?

I can find nothing in the workshop manual or parts book.

if you asked on the forum I could of told you the problem. Same happened to mine with more comical results, If I turned corners the horn would go off randomly.

Think it's some anti vibration thingy.
