I'm looking at buying an x trail but there is this problem.
The advert reads as such

The car is in VERY GOOD condition but as a used car is not blemish free. Very good condition inside and out good service history with 10 stamps in the book last done at 120000 02/10/2013 This runs and drives well ,but i have listed it as spares or repair because it sometimes idles a little high ie 1500 rpm and feels a little down on power. The engine has no funny noises no smoking no overheating and easy to start. The 4wd works all ok , Its fine to drive away from here.

Any idea what could be causing this
Regards
Phil

Fly by wire throttle maybe . MAF is usually on the cards for iffy performance or fuel filter.

Is that one on ebay think ive read that before is it petrol or diesel

That engine being from the same family as the navarra does have other issues also. They are nice drive but not as reliable as a terrano

having read the thread on people wanting info without paying the £10 for joining i would say you just got your tenners worth there...:thumbs

a mate bought one of those it went bang twice sold it for scrap in the end i did tell him not to buy it

I just found this on an Xtrail forum...(So no guarantee to how true it is) re the 2 litre diesel engine. Nissan have done a sort of recall. It would appear that if you use the engine for what it was designed for, ie performance... it damages the main or con rod bearings, so the fix is...
No.. not replace the bearings or the oil feed, but to reduce the engine power and revs so it is less likely to happen.
Wow, with the older Nissans, members are pushing more power out of the older engines with no obvious issues, so what has happened to the Nissan engines?
Who makes them now?:doh:doh:doh

To coin a phrase from a work colleague... " What a Bodge!":doh

Quote from another forum..
"Firstly this not a safety recall and is a voluntary service campaign, what it will involve is your local Nissan dealership reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM). The approximate time to complete this is within 20 minutes.

Our ongoing quality monitoring has identified a potential concern related premature engine bearing wear for the 2.0 litre diesel engine used on
Qashqai / Qashqai+2 (J10) and X-Trail (T31). I am writing to let you know that your vehicle falls within the range of potentially affected vehicles.
Nissan has identified that in a small number of cases when operating under a high load, high engine speed and severe driving conditions, the engine bearings may wear.
In the unlikely event this issue occurs you can identify an abnormal engine noise or lack of engine power. If this engine noise or lack of power is ignored and you continue to operate the vehicle, then in extreme cases the engine may stall due to seizure of the main or connecting rod bearings.

What corrective action will Nissan take?

Nissan will reprogram the Engine Control Module to reduce the maximum achievable engine revolutions per minute. As a result, the engine
will no longer operate in a high load and high engine speed condition that may cause premature bearing wear.
The reduction in maximum achievable engine revolutions per minute will not affect the maximum speed of the vehicle."

her who must be obeyed had a x trail sport dci turbo ...... just hope the catalytic converter doesn't go ( £900 +vat Nissan only part )

out of the many problems she had with it ...... ckp sensor replaced , .... maf replaced ....... cat converter replaced ...... some oil seals replaced .... but when it was running well it did around 47 mpg on a run , and was quite quick too ( 6 speed g/box )
