hi guys had a little look around the engine after doing a bit of 4x4ing over the weekend and noticed injector 3 and 4 seem wet and looked at the the other 2and they are bone dry.

is this an easy fix or injectors out ?

what may need replacing ?

rubber leak off pipes:nenau

on the injectors, but hey wait a mo, someone who knows much more will be here soon

silly question perhaps but where are the rubber pipes ?

They link each injector up and return diesel back to ip to the return pipe to tank or could be leaking from the high pressure pipe to the injector at the nut which holds the pipe on or could be the injector itself which I beleave is maybe new/recon injectors but might be wrong go for the cheap and easy bit first the leak offs then the nut holding the high pressure pipe then the last, injector .

of all the 2.7 td's I have seen the leak off pipes have been metal with a bend in them to absorb movement, till you get to No 4 then it changes to rubber, not sure about the tdi as only seen one and did not notice, so could be that one of the metal pipes has fractured, if so try and find the exact spot and mark it, then remove and get it brazed up, Rick

My tdi has rubber on all 4 injectors thought all tdi had rubber and metal on the old td .

Hi, i did my leak off pipes a while ago, they are rubber with the braided outer and they seem to degrade and then start leaking.

Just buy some new pipe and a few clips and replace them, its a really easy job and worth doing all at the same time.

Cheers
Stephen

If you take the intercooler off they are pretty easy to see and replace, mine need doing too. I found one with a split end and just cut it a bit shorter, it's cured it for now.

Does anyone do brazing anymore?

Can it be done as a DIY job, would a fine tipped blowlamp do it and a stick of brass, or is it more complicated than that? :nenau
Do you need flux?

Is it just high temperature soldering?

yep just basically high temperature soldering, a good clean joint the right flux and away you go. I would imagine though that the 'capillary' effect that draws the molten brass into the joint could leave a 'bead' on the inner surface of the pipe and it is a pretty narrow pipe.

alternatively would cutting the pipe and fitting a sleeve of rubber pipe over it with a couple of clips do the trick?

But if it is a TDI not a TD then all this is academic as they have rubber leak off pipes anyway.

You need Borax as flux for brazing, keep the heat down or you will melt the pipe

.

hi guys thanks for all the replies just wondering if anyone has a picture of the potential culprit ?

.

hi guys not had a chance to check the pipes yet but would any of these leak problems cause a drop in performance ?

no not really the amount leaking is far too small and in any case from the leak off is nothing as this is only going back to the tank any way, Rick
