Sorry, I have been wading through the search feature trying to find this, as I know I have read it before, but can't be putting the right words in, as I can't find anything on it.

The under matting/sound deadening on the drivers side is soaking wet, but the carpet, and removable mat on top seem to be OK. From the evidence, I deduce the water must be coming from behind the heavy rubber covered mat that runs up the bulk head under the pedals, but that is very hard to get behind to look properly.

I remember from reading past posts, the panel in front of the windscreen can be an issue, but IIRC that is more to do with the passenger side rather than the drivers side. I have also read the sunroof drain points could be an issue, and I have checked the bottom of the front wings, and they are clean, but I can't actually see where the actual drain hole should be, to poke and see if any water tries to come out. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or even have a photo?

Any other things to look for? I have not been through any deep water, so I take it, it is all rain related.

check under the brake servo

Have a good close look on the seam between bulkhead wheel arch inner wing area. They do rot there so you may have a hole through.

Cheers, I will have a look in those two places tomorrow.

I just managed to find an old post that talks about having to remove the mud flaps to be able to see the sunroof drain hole, so I will also have a go at that tomorrow.

Check the grommet where the aircon drain pipe passes through the bulkhead on the N/S as I could see day light through mine:doh water could be creeping across via the sound deadening. Next I would check every grommet on the O/S of the bulk head & A post

I had the same issue with mine and it turned out to be the flintstone mod:lol
Seam had gone so water was getting in and rotting the floor.
Had to cut out and weld in a new fair size plate right across the floor.

Cheers, I will add them to the list of checks for tomorrow.

Luckily the floor is good, I had the carpet up today, which is why I want to act quick, so I can stop any potential issues now.

That's good news then:thumb2was a right pain to strip everything out to do the repair.

Well thats bad news, the sun roof drains are clear. I have a large syringe and used it to squirt water down the two front drains, where it ran straight down and onto the floor and side step. I then poured a jug of water into the channel and it ran away as fast as I poured.

I looked at the corner of the engine bay, but there is so much stuff there I will need to set aside some time to do the job properly.

I was just wondering, where does the water that runs into the area where the wipers etc are, drain out.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

Defo not coming in from the rear door area is it :nenau

No thank goodness, I spent a whole day sorting out the back door earlier in the year, and did a write up on that. Fortunatally, that was only getting as far as under the rear seat.

I discovered this when I ran some wires from the engine bay to the rear, along the drivers side. It required me removing the bottom of the dash, the side kick panel, the trims along the doors (Front and rear), and then the side panels of the boot, so I could lift the carpet all the way along, and use the plastic trunking to run the wires neatly. The only wet bit was where your heels go at the very front.

Not just a case of when you get in with wet shoes/boots and the waters making the mat wet :nenau

I have the same issue, the carpet is dry but underneath it is constantly damp.
Are the drains for the sunroof clearly visible ?
I have not looked at mine yet, but was told to check them.
Where do they run out at the bottom ?

Thanks

Hi ZD check out the other thread regarding the sunroof drains :thumbs

Clive just thinking, have you run any cables through between the door and seal such as a cb aerial coax?

It can leak in that way with or without the cable still in situ

I must admit I cheated, after reading on here in the past about stuff building up in the bottom of the wing, and have made a point of keeping it clear down there.

Also, when I first joined, there were a lot of posts relating to sunroof rattles, and the pipes coming off the corners, so I got one of those things for hanging net curtains, that is like a long metal spiral covered in a rubber/plastic sleeve, and pushed that down the drains. I could hear it hitting somewhere down in the sill, but never did see where it came out. I then used a giant syringe to flush a load of water down it, and check it was coming out the bottom.

Anyway, I went out yesterday with the intention of finding the bottom end, looked at how I would have to remove the mudflap and plastic wing liner, had a flash back to removing the rear mud flaps when I did the body lift, and decided to just go straight to pouring water down it to see if it was blocked first...:doh fortunately it wasn't, so I saved myself all that work...:clap:clap

Good point... I do have a very tiny cable that runs from the temperature meter to the sensor just inside the front wing, and runs behind the rubber door seal... it's in about the right place, so will have a look. :bow
