We had some here about 3 pm heavy enough to lay about an inch trouble was the roads were wet and just about freezing, so the plonkers were sliding all over the place, spate of local accidents almost shut most of the main roads at about 4.30 pm just at the start of Friday rush hour, me I am on all the back roads givin it some welly and sliding in two and 4 wheel drive just to keep my auto reactions up to scratch, which I am pleased to say were spot on, total control, have not been able to do it for many years apart from the short spell last year, so welcome the chance to catch up on training, Rick

we havent got any snow here ( yet ) , but according to local radio its gonna be heavy snow on saturday , the main problem here is the low temperatures , last night it was -6

Forecasters Warning

Snow, Frost and Ice

Areas Affected:
Snow- Showers mainly around coastal areas of northern and western and Britain
Frost and Ice - All regions

Valid: Until 23:59 Sunday 19th December 2010

This is an update to the Severe Weather Warning that was issued by Metcheck on Wednesday 15th December, this update issued at 21:46 on Friday 17th December 2010.

Much colder weather has now spread to all of Britain and Ireland, and this cold spell is expected to continue over the weekend with widespread, sharp night frosts bringing widespread icy surfaces.

Heavy snow showers will continue to affect many northern and western areas during the next 24 hours, bringing further accumulations of 5-10cm in places. An area of more persistent snow is expected to develop across Wales, west and southwest England during the early hours of Saturday, before spreading to other southern counties of England during the day on Saturday. Up to 10cm could fall quite widely, with up to 20cm falling in some localised spots.

With temperatures falling well below freezing at night and struggling to rise above freezing during the day, widespread icy surfaces can be expected, especially on untreated areas whilst snow will bring disruption with it.

These wintry conditions will make for hazardous travelling conditions, so please allow extra time and take extra care if you are travelling during this period.

This Severe Weather Warning will be updated tomorrow morning, Saturday 18th December 2010.
