I've kept quiet about it, as I found the first rust on it, and I had to spend £30 on a newer replacement fuel tank:doh and £13.90 on a new upper offside ball joint, and I have never spent this much on it in one year before...

Oh the expense...:doh

Just heard the phone went..........

IT PASSED No advisories

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

18 years and old enough to drink now..

Gosh I was so worried......

Best regards,

Rustic

Top man and congratulations, the worry is horrible isn't it

I hate the fact that any minute you could get that dreaded phone call that it's going to need hundreds of pounds worth of work on it before it can pass

I think my truck is in good nick to be honest, I know I'm going to need 2 new front tyres and a new drivers side outside CV gaiter for it and my MOT is about 6 months away and I'm already pooing my pants :(

I always do all the work, and generally do the jobs as they come along, but when I had the fuel tank leak, just before the Trip to Azerbaijan, I delayed the MOT as I usually put it in 1 month before.
I wanted to keep it on hand in case the Picasso was unable to get us to Heathrow.

The snow and cold didn't help, as usually at this time of the year it is quite mild and working on the Mav is no big deal.

In fact tomorrow would have been the last day of the old MOT..

OH, just thought, I need to sort out the road tax now:doh

I know there are still jobs to do on the Mav, most around the front cross member, not looked there for such a long time.

The Mav has still the original fuel and brake lines too.

The only advisories it has ever had has been a chip in the windscreen... still there, but not always picked up, and one seat belt had started to fray on an edge. That was sorted with a quick flash with a lighter. Still ok 3 years on from that one.

Now what can I treat her to....?

Well done. :clap:clap

That wait for the news is horrible...

Like you, I prefer to sort things out as I go along, rather than a load in one go... but I must admit, I was bragging to Suz last night, that my car only cost a bit of time, and £20 for the drop links. Even for a 14 year old car that is impressive, let alone your 18 year old one...

Nice one on passing the MOT... Your truck must be the oldest in the club, this gives me some hope for the future of mine. with the economy the way it is I'd like at least another 4 years from it "fingers crossed" !!

I take my car to our local garage, and always wait with it whilst the test is being done, and have a chat to the tester as he does it. I don't know if it has any real effect, but it has passed the last five MOT's?

Alan

Well just applied for my road tax on line 12 months £225. Clearly the electronic MOT has gone through.

Much better than the old days.
:thumbs

I wonder who actually has the oldest Nissan in the Club, I think I must be a contender with one that is 23 years old...:lol Bun not had it from new...

Well I think I hold the club record for having owned a Nissan ( Maverick) for the longest time...

18 years.

Can anyone get close to that?:nenau

Challenge...

Spot on Rustic.......There's cars out there less than half the age of yours that would never match that.

My wife pointed out, that if anything happened to it, I would probably need counselling and therapy...

I had an Austin Ambassador for 13 years, and that was in great condition when we sold it, in fact the first buyer insisted on paying more than I was selling it for, as I told him there was someone else looking at it later...

Best of all...
I still love driving the Maverick :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Good news. :clap
The trucks a credit to you. :thumbs

No not true at all... Well close anyway.

Mine is a Maverick, Nissan Terrano in disguise...:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

I was worried I must admit, that's why I didn't mention it the day before.

Each year something else on it gets nearer the end of its life, and it is at what threshold it has to be replaced, that is the unknown part, this is what makes us worry on older cars with increasing mileage.

For example
When do brake lines become corroded enough to fail?
When is a hole in the bodywork big enough or near enough to a main structural point?
How much play in that wheel bearing is just ok and worthy of an advisory?
Is that chip in the windscreen in the wrong place?
Do those wipers clear the screen enough?
Is that clunk from the suspension important?
Is that small hole in the exhaust an MOT fail?

And the most unknown.. how good are my emissions, is that smoke on acceleration an issue?

I always take mine for a good thrashing the day before, not fast, but red lining it and holding it there in each gear, except 5 th otherwise I would be speeding:doh

Let it warm up first though, a bit of red line.... increasing the time on each gear as you go UP the box, not down, no need to red line it going down the gears.

I did about 20 miles overall, not all at the red line though, accelerate hold...change gear, accelerate hold... gear change etc.

It really clears out the carbon and soot from all those nasty places.

It works for me anyway.:thumb2
