while you have got the carpet up check the floor pan as i had the same problem recently with my seat belt mounts.took out the carpet to find that the floorpan was going where the rear seat rubbers sit.had to scrape away the insulation that is glued to the floor under the carpet.
this turned a small job into the best part of a weekend job:eek:.

yup, checked it, its like new believe it or not!

I bought a clear waxoyl starter kit from here:
http://www.lkperformance.co.uk/Oils/Hammerite_Waxoyl_Starter_Kit_-_2_5L/Waxoyl/247188/624

Cheapest I could find. Not bad at £31 delivered. Shame they don't do a black starter kit.

No idea how well it works, Going to do the engine area this week and double check what the garage did.

Waxoyl itself is excellent stuff, BUT to get the best results you really need to spray it on via a compressor. The investment isnt too bad compressor £150and tools for the job £20 , freely available at machine mart, waxoyl 5 litres is £20 at most factors, all a matter of what you want and how often you intend to keep the tin worm at bay, good investment considering most welders charge approx 20-25 quid per hr. Did mine back in October 15 ltrs for 50 quid (deal at local motor factors) sorted for the winter :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

I also use Morris,s Ankor wax for the cavities £13.50 for 5 litres

Reckon youd pay at least 150 quid at a specialist and they would use abt 10 litres waxoyl and 2/3 litres ankor wax.

Decision is your ?????

i've got one and it works fine for me, should get a pipe fitting to push up chassis and seal inside.

on my t2 the off side mount rotted and lower down the floor was very rusty, what i did was to cut the rusty metal out and found the load sensing valve and brake pipes, very handy i thought so i cut a steel plate and self tapped it with sealer to the floor, so rear brake pipes and the load sensing valve bleed nipple are a easy job. :thumb2

I was thinking more getting down the chassis and in all the holes. I have in the past just used a paint brush. ;)

very tempting to get a compressor, but itll have to wait until next year. the car has mostly been waxoyld already, so not too bad underneath so ill certainly do a waxoyl via brush at the very least.!

Well guys as long as we clear up afterwards she's OK with us using the carport:thumb2 So we'll have shelter, power, light, tea/coffee and if we're really lucky bacon sarnies:thumbs

you coming too Pete:lol

we're not doing it tomorrow mate so chill out, itll be weeks yet!!

waiting for my mate to get the welding gear from The Lakes, as soon as i have it, we can arrange a convenient day.

if possible, and ill certainly put something down, id like to add molyslip to my gear box, Rustic has advised, or change my gear box oil and top up with molyslip, would that be ok Jim?? if not ill try and squeez it in before hand./..

in fact...i might even ask the garage to do it....

as long as we dont leave a mess clive it dont matter what we do.
Jim

no worries, no mess will be left!! im bring a ton of blankets/sheets/tarpaulin!

if i can, im going to do the gearbox oil at home on my gravel drive because it really doesnt matter if it leaks a bit...

Comparing other threads, and the MIG welder looks best, which is better the gas less welding wire, which does not need extra gas.
or the wire that needs gas.

I bought a Mig a long time ago, only used it on non critical stuff, brackets for Diy, welding rings to mooring pins etc, I have always used gas less wire, simple just set the speed, current and off you go.

Spark-burn spark, smoke alarm goes off, flash spark oops, should have moved those rags, spark-flash burn, why is my tea cup spattered with little black bits? pick it up, burn fingers, drop it damn ! needs welding again:eek:
Where's the grinder? started in the wrong place,,, can't see a darn think through this face shield, up shield, aim tip, lower shield miss the target, up shield.... it goes on....
Does this sound right.... Am I qualified now?:doh

If has the facility for gas, and I have a small bottle, never used,
It is also capable of welding aluminium with correct gas and wire but never tried it.

I guess practice and play, I bought a book on how to weld... I Guess I should open it first then consider reading it :lol

I wouldn't trust me to weld any thing important....:eek:
It's knowing your limitations.:thumbs

you get a better weld with gas but gassless ig good out side in the wind.. both are adaquate for cars

why not have a barbecue ? ... thats a recipe for disaster if its around cars ? ..... shall i bring my own sausages ?

lets just stick to actually fixing the cars lol, poor Jim.
