Just been quoted £500 for welding needed to Mav!

Front cross member under front bumper & either side front corners (behind rubber splash mats!

Rest of the car is fine.
I used to Mig Weld myself but gave it up when I moved into a smaller property.
Now my body's not up to it!!!

£500! I need to change my job me-thinks.

Do you know anyone local who could do it for some cash?

That was him!
Having said that, he is a bloody good mechanic.
But, no, I don't know any welders around here.

The Cross Member thats under front Bumper needs repairing or replacing!
And the inside front panels in the corners need repairing, you know where the rubber splash mats are fixed in the corners behind the front lights.
As far as I know that's it.
Not sure if there are replacement sections available or they need cutting out of sheet steel!

Yeh, and yoom down sowf!
Below Watford!!!!!
Where they talks like wot the Queen does! innit!

Is it me or do tradesmen these days seem to prey on what they see as easy targets. Sounds far too high to me, it's a common place for them to rot out. There are one or two threads where people have made there own new member and actually bolted it in place.

That's more like it I guess.
Front cross member is easy to do either making your own or as I did cut a good one off a scrapper and welded that on.
I'd happily do it for you at that money and I'll travel :sly
Seriously though it can't take longer than a day's work tops. Even if you go in the morning to the scrap yard, cut one off, come home , cut yours off and weld up the new one . Done in time for tea :thumbs

I could probably cut the old cross member off and re-fix a new one on, but where would I get one from?
I'd have to bolt it on, as I don't have a welder!
That bit shouldn't be too difficult, its the inner corner bits that definitely need welding.
I guess if I can do the cross member it would reduce the price quoted!

Cross member behind front bumper

Had to make 3x posts, couldn't get all pics on one!

Oh Yeh! it's really thin stuff, I was surprised.
Apparently a lot of folks have the same problem.

Does it still have any MOT left or has the car been sitting for a while.
The problem with welding on metal like that, is getting it to take, I did a Landy a few years ago and the holes just kept getting bigger, maybe that's why he's gone in at a high price

MOT was Christmas just gone.

I may have a go at getting bumper off and have a good look.
