Hi all, can anyone shed some light on my current problem please?

This evening i was having a poke around in the engine bay and noticed some wet around the number 3 and 4 glow plugs, just where the threaded bit goes into the head.

I stripped off the intercooler to have a closer look and found that there is some slight weeping around the glow plugs, i put a socket on and tried to nip it but i am a little afraid of breaking or stripping something.

Now i do remember when i replaced them early last year i simply screwed them in and nipped them, i shouldn't have put anything like some ptfe tape around them should i?

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Cheers
Stephen

they are a taper seat so no need for anything other than the seat being clean, and being tight, there must be a torque figure some place, I have a petrol so do not have them, Rick

I agree, but check they are the right type first, they may be too short, so the taper can't reach. Remove one to check what the taper looks like regarding soot deposits etc.

Hi guys, I guess one of my concerns also is that if they are not seating properly then I guess I could be losing a little compression too.
Number 1 and number 2 seem sealed properly with no leakage...

the amount of leakage compression wise would not be measurable, aside from the slight oil stain I would not worry about it, if they were chuffing then yes that would be a problem, Rick

This is what leaking inj seals does on a cdi Merc 2.7 , which very commonly leak, and are not noticed under the engine cover. Ford / PSA 1.4tdci's are also very common candidates.

Given you cannot remove the rocker cover until the injectors are removed, the dealer's approach is to smash the rocker cover to bits, remove the head, dismantle and have it acid dipped. Circa £2000+. The problem is the injector wiring is under the rocker cover which has to be snipped to get the head off. Dealer will use a new loom, but we've spliced in a section from a scrap car before now. There isnt much that will touch this carbon build up.

Bloody hell there is a car to avoid, remove injectors that have a problem seal to get the rocker cover off, with wiring under, I have heard it all now, but the glow plugs on a T2 leaking a might will not be in the same category, Rick
