Water in Diesel

There is some Diesel at work that was drained into a wheelie bin then left out in the heavy we've had here, is it best to just let the water settle to the bottom for a couple of days then syphon off the top or is there any tricks I don't know about, as I want some for myself

Just let it settle, but if it is milky do not touch it without some spacial treatment, Rick

Only if it is milky, ie homogenized, otherwise just let the water settle and draw off from above the water line, if it is milky I would not bother, just not worth the risk for a road motor, Rick

Bloody Hell Doug veg is dirt cheap, leave it and pour some chip fat in :thumb2

Got to admit my thoughts are leave well alone. Think of the cost of repairs if it goes wrong.

when i noticed water/slurry in my wvo i put the container in my chest freezer and nexd day pourd off what i could use,dumped the rest.some i had mixed with petrol/derv did the same.always worked.

Those days are done for me, I wasn't earning much when I started out with my Maverick which was the reason I used to piss around with WVO and converting it into Bio.

Given my time again and now knowing how messy it is to do at home and how many issues it has caused with my truck I wouldn't go near it again.

I only put SVO in there now and that's because it can literally be just poured in and it's just a habit and also dirt cheap, I could probably afford the diesel costs these days but still love to save a few quids :naughty

Try Wynns dry fuel

I would let it settle, draw off what you want then in your new container add Wynns Dry Fuel. TBH unless you are talking big gallons is it worth risk, lastly are you sure there is no petrol in there - when I worked at MB we had a tanker that would empty our mixed fuel container - none of the staff would have it even if it was free !!

As you know Petrol is a killer.

As long as your is a 2.7, then you can just chuck it in. Do a search on here for vegetable. Unfortunately the search engine won't let you search on all the obvious 3 letter words and acronyms. I found on our 2 T2's to stay at about 30% in cold weather and only went to about 60% in the hotest spells. Normally I would put 20l of veg in, then fill up to brim with diesel.

That is cheap. Costco works out at about 73p. I didn't notice any difference in mpg, but when running at 20l veg to 50l diesel, the car seems to rum smoother. Can't put a finger on exactly why, or any justification, but to me and my wife, it does feel better. For us, 40l veg to 30l diesel is too much and it starts to get lumpy.

Yea I get discount at bookers so it’s 16£ for 20litres but I get 10% off is rapeseed oil ok?
I’m prob only going to do 20 litres at a time anyways as I will only be using it for going to Scotland so will just cut the overall cost down.

Waiting for a bit warmer weather for the veg, this diesel is free, but I already have a full tank of good quality derv in mine :augie Other lads are taking some of this stuff, I stuck a pump right to the bottom this morning and got about 7/8 litres of water before diesel came out, I reckon it will all be robbed before I need any of it anyhow :lol

Hiya mate, my experience with veg oil is good, I will run 100% in summer but not in winter as it thickens up due to the cold. If you have a bosch setup with the rubber leak off/return pipes going from injector to injector then I recommend changing those as with them being old the veg oil will eat through them pretty quick. That happened to me but it is a very very easy and simple fix, even for a Lancashire lad
Also with the veg oil being thicker than diesel it will suspend any dirt in your tank and bring it through the fuel lines, first time I changed my filter after running veg oil it was filthy but I was told to expect that and I changed it early and then again six months later, now it is normal and I have a nice clean tank
I also have the same experience as lazyferret, not the voices, but my truck seems to run smoother with veg oil in it, don't know why!!

Ok I’m sold then I will grab a barrel tomorrow and update on the full cost. And I will also order 2 new filters as I prob need one now anyways just by looking how bad the air filter was I can only imagine what the diesel filter looks like.

Could you show me pictures of the pipes so I know what ones I know a hydraulic place that I can get loads of hoses for cheap so he will prob just cut me what I need.

When I first got my motor I put premium diesel in and gave it a good hard run to get it cleared out as it had been sat for quite some time.
