Hi all, odd problem showed up today,
1/ turned on ignition glow plug light went out straight away
Engine started OK, but it is warm in Essex 20 degrees C
2/ later on tried to wash windows, front and back, wipers did their thing no pump motor sound and no water  but headlamp washer works:confused:

Is there a fuse that is shared by screen washers and glow plugs?
I have not noticed anything else not working, BUT N/S mirror wiring is still unconnected, is there a connection?
I have used the mav since I took off the mirror but did not notice the glow plug light and have not used screen washers until today
HELP:bow:bow

Glow plug light does seem to go out quick for a diesel, but glow plugs stay on for a while after even though the light is not on, cannot be a common fuse for glow plugs and washer motor as the two have vastly different amp draw, most likely the washer pump has failed, your head light washers work cos it is a different pump, what about you rear washers, if your washer bottle is on the near side in the engine bay then easy to do, if it is under the off side front wing then more of a problem, Rick

Changed the rear washer pump on my '94 T2 recently (there are two pumps, one for front, the other for rear) dead easy to change, they are a push fit into a rubber grommet, no need to unbolt the bottle, but empty it first or you'll have a sleeveful of water!

Hi guys thanks for input. :clap
Both front and rear washers do not work, if there is two pumps then I guess it is fuse or stalk problem, unlikely both will fail at once.
Tank is N/S near fuel filter and wiper motor, on wing
I will have time to get under bonnet Tuesday and nose around with a test meter.
As the wipers both front and back turn when stalk is set for either wash my first thought is fuse.
Anyone know where is may be? :bow

don't think it will be a fuse, more like bad earth or both pumps failed, test meter will tell you, Rick

If you are quiet can you hear the relay click off in the engine bay for the plugs?

I'd establish if in fact you do have 2 pumps one for front and one for rear, if you do and they are both not working what are the chances of them failing at exactly the same time, Slim

So what components do they share in common is what you need to be asking, it's either going to be a fuse or the stalk 100%

Although given that your plugs are playing up and your pumps aren't working either and this started to happen at the same time, I'd not 100% rule out that you might be in the faulty ignition switch club.

Have a look there first and then work your way round with a Multimeter, that's always the best way mate :D

Hope you get it sorted and more importantly doesn't cost you any money :doh

Ah but what else shares the two pumps? the washer bottle, crap in here will do both pumps, the head light washer is different in that it is much bigger with 6mm bore hose and big jets to the lights, so much less susceptible to crud, Rick

I would still expect 1 to fail before the other, certainly not both at exactly the same time, we'll see what Kitchenman comes back with as per his testing

I love the debates we have on here, I feel like we are all diagnosticians sitting around a table with a whiteboard like in House :D

I'd wiggle the key a bit and try again, sounds like dodgy connections somewhere to me as I use the rear pump much less than the front one, so cruds less likely to be sucked into there. Keep forgetting that the lights even have a washer!

It can strike twice!

Both of mine failed at same time
One motor burnt out this caused the common earth to fail

Boom!!!!!!!!!! Look at that for knowledge, now who'd have known that unless they could be bothered with the tedious task of tracing the wires back in the workshop download or actually getting in there and tracing the wires to and from the pump

Washer update

Hi all, thanks for all the feedback
Rear washer was OK operator error:eek::doh
Front washer dead, I took off the connector, put test leads across terminals, switch to wash, got 12 volts.:clap
Removed pump put 12 volts across terminals, got a spark nothing else, so I guess it is a gonner.
CNCFABS I will message you hope you have one

Mirror and washer sorted via CNCFABS

Once again Stephen at CNCFABS came to the rescue:clap:clap:clap

I haven't used the mav since the problem, and without washers the boys in blue would take a dim view of me using it on the road , BUT I will have a look to see if the rear washer pump will supply the front by swapping hoses, and plugs, watch this space for update

Update

Rear washer pump will fit BUT the plug wont :doh:eek:
So a quick dash to Maplin get some bits
All now working, and legal:clap
Thanks for all the input
