Use a fuse ?

Okay I have read this post and Rustic is right of course you should use a fuse.
In all probability I would not have bothered but would have unravelled one end so I was tapping with just one or two strands.

I think with Alex we are becoming a bit too Nany State !

My turn for head over parapet time .
First off in principle I do agree with Rustic in the letter of the job approach and his experience etc
However I'm one of those types who absolutely detests the Nanny State and associated Political Correctness :banghead
All it does is dilute the gene pool :freak3:
I admit I'd have tested the thing the same way :augie
I was more expecting Alex to have been squirted with gunky water and that would have been hilarious ofcourse :lol
I do feel somehow some people just attract over critique on here. I also think it's usually well meant but may not come out well when typed out .
I'm reminded of many Ryan japes on here and before that my old sparring partner Extreme (Colin) . We'll never get on with everyone but a little leg pulling is to be expected , just so long as it doesn't get insulting. IMHO
As for YOUTUBE, well the Krap that's on there is amazing. Again use Youtube with gloves and you'll be fine. If not then at least film yourself and send it in to You've been framed and get yourself 250 quid for being a tit
Over and out, love you all longtime :lamer:

I think the above post sums it up quite nicely, it covers all aspects from both sides of the discussion, and doesn't criticise any individual, but points out the limitations and frustrations in today's society.
Well said, well put. :thumb2:thumb2

I am guilty of being over protective, which goes beyond my own family, so first I would like to apologise for what appears to be an over reactive reply to Alex's youtube clip. I will certainly back off in future. (Where appropriate). :bow:bow

I once saw a tilting lorry cab held up by a length of wood as I passed a broken down truck on the opposite carriage way of the Motorway, a guy was working under there...
I had a premonition that the prop could slip and the cab could fall on him...
When I got home, horrors of horrors a man had been killed on that motorway from a truck cab falling on him...
I guess you never get over that... there was nothing I could have done in the first instance, so I decided to intervene when ever I see a hazzard.
I was in a shop once, and there was a low clothes rack that had a horizontal spike sticking out, I thought, a child could impail them selves on that... maybe blinded... I couldn't walk away from it, and after I reported it, I didn't walk away until they sorted it.
There have been many incidents like this, I guess I can see risks that others don't always see.
Life experience I guess, I have been on many courses on working in Hazardous areas with electrical and electronic instrumentation, that I have designed and tested, so you can imagine the risk of life and limb, if you get something wrong.
Before you say anything... I am a natural worrier... you should see me before the Mav's MOT lol...:lol:lol

We also have a boat, and sometimes you are hundreds of metres from the shore, even on the Broads, sometimes sleeping on a broad with a mud weight down, if you have an electrical fault, you are on your own, with nowhere safe to go, so you can imagine the risks involved.
There are still many boaters that use fuses that are too big for the cable size, some even wrapped in tin foil :doh
A few weeks ago a boat hirer was alerted to smoke coming up through the floor from the engine area...
This was in fact a diode isolator unit that went up in smoke, it basically put close to a short circuit straight across the battery....
He isolated the battery and he saved the boat.
So I am cautious... over cautious..

But I am still here... well most of me lol.

make it fit and rustic thank u for your comments .

Thanks Richbids for bringing this to our attention.
Sometimes we need a wake up call, we do get a bit over familiar with each other, sometimes forgetting that there are other members who are not involved with, what we feel, is friendly banter, but sometimes it looks like we go over the top sometimes.

We do care about people's welfare, and I have called my self "Alex's Uncle Rustic" as I do care about him, my response is what most Uncle's might want to say... it's just that I say it.:nenau
lol...

no matter what Alex posts he seems to get the piss took out of him.
Ive done it myself, but sometimes it all gets a bit much.
all this thread could have been avoided by the first response being worded slightly different.
a simple next time you try anything like this I would recommend you use a fuse would have done it.
we all need to learn and all alex has done is follow someone elses advice.
positive encouragement to help him understand what he is doing and how it should be done is whats needed.
ive met him a few times and he is a nice bloke who is just finding his way with his truck.
nuff said.

I can see Rustic's point about having a fused live when testing things as it does add a safety factory:thumbs but i've done the same as Alex many times to test things & so far touch wood i've been fine:augie tbh these days I like to try & test things off the motor if I can & use an old CB power pack but an old PC power supply can easily be modded for the same job to bench test things which might be handy for some of you's:thumbs

Have you been in my house? :sly

I have a regulated CB one on the workbench for this purpose, pre fused

Thanks rustic for your honesty.
We all love our Nissan 's and like this forum and the associated Face book wall .
Please let this be an end to the bitching and let's all play nicely.
Kind regards
Rich

Alex Alex where art thou?

Ian

playing internet games I reckon, but for my two penorth think you should give the guy a break, only so much stick can be taken by one guy, and he is in fact a really nice guy, has some different ideas perhaps but that is what makes us individuals, Rick

I'll second that. Just hope he doesn't fade away. Need his projects and banter. [emoji106]

Rustic

Rustic if you were sat next to me on a flight I am sure we would find the time just flew by so as to speak as we chatted.

If I were younger I would have loved to go boating on the Norfolk Broads, I am a petrol head and like to keep my motors for longer than most. Now with more years behind me than in front of me I try my best to advise the younger generation.

When I was young there was no internet, no mobile phones, no such thing as an ECU life was easier somehow the pace was accelerating as we reached middle age and we need to give others the benefit of our life experience...................but maybe we should just let them learn from their own mistakes like we did.

I often think of my late father who said many things that have stuck with me. The last one was about retirement................son he said the trouble is you dont know how long you are going to live! He only managed 69 years and my Mum lasted with fair health in her own home until she was 86.
