washer pump not working

Since yesterday the window washer pump is not working anymore.

I don't hear it, and no fluid is spraying on the windows. Fuse (if it is the one I think it is...) seems OK.

Is there an easy way to check connections to the pump/pump itself? As far as I can see, everything is hidden behind the front wing...

Multi meter or a bulb & wires. Press the washers :thumb2

Not frozen, and I know how to check once I get to the pump.
What I'd like to know, is there an easy way to get to it?

As far as I can see, the pump is next to the "hidden" part of the reservoir, behind the front wing. And I'd rather not take that off, due to big lack of time now...

If you have the double outlet pump it's voltage supply is not logical:nenau

I ended up buying a couple of second hand ones that lasted about a year each so for the last mot I got one of these.

Easiest way to remove it is to remove the wing but when the tin worm has eaten it's fill I found that I could force my hand behind the arch liner to get to the pump but if you are doing it by feel don't get it confused with the level sensor.

I have changed one but not at all easy, if I had to do another I would buy a generic pump and cut it into the front washer pipe as low as I could, wiring wise you need to establish the positive of the two wires when front washers opperated and apply earth to the other pump terminal, if you require rear washers then add another pump, Rick

Hi Rick, I tried that trick but unfortunately the old pump still in circuit restricts the flow of water too much. The other alternative I thought about was to get a tank and pump from a later model that fits behind LH headlamp.

It's the one benefit of the rusty wings:doh gives more access to the pump.

I got one of those last year, got fed up whacking the old one. The only thing was I had to swap the pipes round which i found easiestcwat to do it was the 2 connectors where the pipes run through the inner wing, oh & mine was only £4.99 :lol

Can't remember how much mine was I just used that as an example:thumbs

The pipes aren't too bad, think I ended up pouring hot water over them to release and dipping the ends in hot water to refit. If I remember right, one of the pipes had a little more free play than the other.

Worst thing was sore knuckles after I had finished:doh

Is this a pump that runs in reverse for the rear window. If so, does that work?

Just found out there are 2 pumps, one for front and one for back washer, I suppose. Must be a faulty contact then, I'll take the wing off this weekend.

Not sure if it makes any difference but I have 2 on mine. I presume it's 1 for screens and the other for headlamp washers (which i have removed)

So, the cause is found: pump is goosed. There is electricity coming to the pump, but pump itself is dead.

Now, anyone an idea where I can find one? I'm in rather urgent need of it, have some long drives coming up next week and the roads are covered in salt over here...

Jims Terrano will have one and easy to get at now the wing has been ripped off, but of course he may not have access to the vehicle, in which case I have one, just need to remove the wing to get at it, Rick
