Wanted terrano 3.0

Well I've been looking for. 3.0 terrano this past week, missed out on a decent looking car so waiting patiently for another to come up in northeast. I have noticed a auto 3.0 local at a price I want to pay. I have owned autos in the past (merc 250 td, freelander and a grand jeep) all were nice to drive. Does anyone own one who would like to divulge that secrets problems and good points like does the box hand onto the gears in a aggravating way, mpg, reliability issues. Cheers lads n lasses MARK

Many have 3.0 autos, I don't. All I can say is the towing capacity is significantly reduced on an auto.

That is correct. 2tn towing weight.
I'm well pleased with how mine drives and tows. My caravan is 1900kg max and have done a fair few miles without problems. 3 speed plus overdrive and able to switch between normal settings, sport which holds the gears longer and winter setting (snowflake) which makes the box pull away in 2nd?. Not experienced this though.
Regular gearbox oil changes help especially if towing regular.
Early 3ltrs were trouble but that was before terranos were fitted with them.
I manage a little over 30mpg solo on a run and I'm not driving miss daisy.
Around town is sickening but aren't they all.

3l auto here and I agree with what Ian says but I don't do any towing. Mine's got a bit of a smokey exhaust but it sailed through its last MoT before Christmas. I've had it just over a year, did oil change plus filters last summer and replaced two bulbs for MoT, other than being a greedy bu&&er for diesel it's the dog's gonads and I love it as much as my Volvo V70. Beats the V70 off road :lol:lol

My 3.0ltr works for a living and is superbe, I get around 32/34 mpg on a long run, 27ish around the lanes and less in low 4x4.....but thats what they do best.

Comfort wise she is faultless, I have crocked knees, back and neck from years of abuse in work, and can travel all day no worries.

Unless you are towing at the highest weights allowable, I think it is academic, you say your folding caravan is only 750 Kg....no worries at all.

I think the proof of the robustness of these vehicles, was sadly proven, by the horrid collision Jims T2 had, with his poor wife behind the wheel......I and many others here would concur that the quality of the car saved her from a lot worse, she is now thankfully, on the mend.

The 3ltr auto can, somehow, manage to drive at a 45° camber without landing on its side too!!!! I've seen it wiv me own eyeballs I tell ye!!

Seriously though, If Ian's is owt to go by, the reliability of the engine and box is not a concern :thumb2
