VO in 3.0?

Hi guys been reading about processing veg oil and also mixing filtered veg oil with diesel

but some say that the 3.0 terrano is no good with veg oil

Is this right?

Happy to have a go at mixing it processing but not mechanically minded so as little mods as possible

one principal reason is that the pump contains its own computer and other significant electronic parts.
In normal operation the temperature of the diesel supply from the tank keeps the pump and electronic parts within acceptable limits.
The tendancy to pre heat veg can raise the operating temperature of the electronics to the point of failure.

Another possible issue is that as the ZD30 is direct injection, the injection pressure is higher, probably not good thing with the increased viscosity of SVO.

There may also be other reasons related to to integrity of the seals etc. tollerating SVO well, we have seen evidence of fuel hose degredation with veg.

I did not recollect Harlowmaverick' 3 as being common rail, however for info, normal injection runs at around 2000 psi, common rail has electronic injectors and are fed at between 20,000 and 30,000 psi, so not a candidate for veggie, Rick

Update

Just an update on this thread, the 3 uses a VP pump, whilst very similar to the VE it has a slight difference in that it does not vary the amount of fuel pumped per stroke as does the VE, instead it uses an electric device similar to common rail injectors, which will gum up as soon as look at it resulting in no or very little fuel delivery, hope this helps to clarify, Rick
