i want to fit an electric cooling fan (spal)on my 2.7tdi maverick please how do i remove the viscous fan is it permantly joined to the water pump.i cant fix the fan in front of the rad because of the a/c condenser rad. thanks lads andeone.

i believe you can remove the viscous unit altogether, but someone correct me if im wrong. if all else fails, just take a hack saw to it. be absolutely sure you want to do it though, because as i just found out, water pumps are expensive.

if you get some slim fans and make a slim mounting of some description you should be able to slide them in without removing the viscous unit, but theres obviously a lot more room if you do. also, most fans dont have a set polarity (ie you can run them both ways), but its always worth checking they can.

im guessing youve read my installation plan on the downloads. if so, just follow that, you shouldnt have any issues, but if you do, just shout

I am about to fit my 01 T2 with a 16" electric in place of the engine driven fan, hopefully leaving the viscous unit in place.

I am pretty sure there is sufficient clearance for the lectric fan to sit slightly off center, once the shroud is removed.

I have a/c so cannot mount the fan infront of the rad.

I will give an update when the patient comes out of the OR!

PS i am also going to mount a 10" intercooler fan too, with a temp switch on the inlet manifold to control it, this is all in readiness for a re-map....

Tim..
