hi fellas,
I seem to have gained a small but noticeable vibration somewhere to the front of my terrano it only started when I engaged the 4 wheel drive and then disengaged it, noticed it the next day on way to work definate vibebration thought at first it was my wheels needed balancing so got all 4 for done yesterday same problem driving home so its not that. The vibration is noticeable around 50mph.
Drove to work this morning still same problem so on the way home I engaged the 4 wheel drive into hi and got a kind of squeeling noise each time I engage 4x4 anbody got any ideas!!!

cheers John

What are you doing:eek::eek::doh

DO NOT ENGAGE 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNLESS ON THE SLIPPERY STUFF !
You will get transmission wind up.

I just posted exactly the same comment about an hour ago on another thread.

Best regards,

Give your front prop a waggle and a twist, there should be no play in the ujs

Get a second hand prop if its fkd

i was on sandy soft ground when i put it into 4x4 so as not to wind up the transmission!!!!!!

ok if its not this what else do you think i should look at and consider??????

What year is it, does it have auto hubs or permanently engaged front hubs? because if the latter, then the front prop shaft is probably goosed, as on the later models Nissan decided to save 50 p and not fit grease nipples to the front UJ's or the slide joint.

This means that the front drive train is working all the time the vehicle is moving, thus drying out the bits that move.:doh

hope this helps,

best regards,

Rustic

Just another thought, when work is done on the front hubs, there is a circlip ( snap ring) on the end of the drive shaft, if for some reason this wasn't fitted correctly then the drive shaft may be loose in the hub.

Try to pull the drive shaft out of the back of the hub, if it moves back and has play, then investigate the inside of the hub.
This I mentioned to look out for when replacing front discs recently.

ok will have a look see what i can discover wooo hooo lol..............

I hope you werer't putting it in 4wd on tarmac!!!!:eek::eek::eek: you'll wreck the gearbox

oh just read further down :doh

It doesn't do any real harm tbh, as the tyres squeal and the windup slips out again

ok fellas problem is i think resolved it was as some of you suspected the front prop-shaft uj just in front of the transfer box have ordered one and awaiting its delivery so as soon as its here will fit it and hopefully that will be it.

many thanks chaps
