Hi Chaps,

just trying to diagnose a vibration / noise issue. Basically if im driving along, 1st to second, second to third gear at too low revs, it is quite loud and vibraty...I have noticed that the front exhaust flexi is buggered, is it likely that this pipe is causing then noise/vibration?

noise/vibration is fine if I keep the revs up through the gears, but sometimes I drive like im driving my Fiat i.e. change gear too soon..my old maverick was never like that.

:thumbs

Mine is the same, I did the ujs and made no difference

hmm...well I suppose ill have to do the flexipipe before I can diagnose further - I know any part of the exhaust blowing can cause vibration and noise, im just 100% its this :/

Could be many things from engine/gearbox mounts to suspension joints...lots to check over then :)

I also get it at the rear at 1200-1500rpm, need to check the UJ's but it's only done 53K road miles but i'm sure it's the rear bumper vibrating as i'm sure it's been replaced in the last few years. Never had this with my 1999 SWB

hmm...ill have a look into how to check the gearbox and engine mounts that seems a sensible place to start (once I have replaced the front flexipipe):thumbs

Check the exhaust mounting over the rear dif, well it was that on my TD:nenau

Does it sound like this?

Does it sound like this?

thankfully not!!?

its more a vibration noise at certain revs, but only if im changing gear at the wrong time if you know what I mean? so if I put it into third at ten mph for example, itll do it then....doesn't seem to struggle or smoke, it goes, but it is noisy and vibraty, more than I would expect..

3rd gear at 10mph
You are making the engine struggle doing that, does it do it when you drive normally... correct use of gears.

Yeah it does do it normally but obviously not as bad as that, only reason I was driving it like that was to exaggerate the sound dor the purpose of the video :)

Cool, well you can rule out your rear diff then because that's what mine is :(

Check the routing of the exhaust. Mine had a terrible vibration after "a bit of a play". I thought I had knackered a uj or something.

The only thing I could see was the exhaust was close to other parts in a few places.

I left it, and one day after another "bit of a play" and a heavy landing onto the left sill, the noise/vibration disappeared.

The problem I have at the moment is a loud rattle at just off tick over for about 1000 revs. This I have traced to a snapped rear exhaust mounting. It's the rubber strap and bolts type. Just trying to find my members number for the Milners discount and I will order a couple with some other kit.

Always investigate the inexpensive things first. I hope you get it sorted.

Brian.
