hiya guys.

took the mav out for a run yesterday and it has now developed a wierd fault. when sat at a stand still and the engine running, it seems to wobble the car alot. would this be ht leads/spark plugs or something more sinister?

mine is a 2.4 petrol and it only does it when its at idle and is now idling below 1000rpm whereas it used to idle at 1000rpm and no wobbling.

i dont suppose an engine mount would be to blame would it?

cheers, simon:thumbs

is it made of jelly?... sorry i no it wont help but i couldnt resist:eek:...

its not jelly i saw it..

look at teh engin mounts.. they may have parted

is it still running smoothly. not missing?

sounds like idle was set too high in the first place, im sure those should idle at 750+-, so yeah, id be checking engine mounts!

Yet to do one on one of these but the one car i did do it on i just used a bit of 4x4 across the bottom of the engine across the jack & done 1 side at a time.
If you have access to an engine lift that will be the other way to do it i guess.
Shouldn't take more than an hour i reckon...

cool. ill leave it until i get back off holiday.
at the risk of getting shot down again... id fix the mount sooner rather than later, it'll play havok with other components. exhaust, drive shafts, fuel lines.

The nearside is easy, the offside you can hardly get your hand in on the 2.4 but I would be looking for why is it not as smooth as silk when idling, mine idles around 600 rpm and you would not know it was running, Rick

Defo get the engine mounts sorted, I've ripped one twice on my truck and the exhaust will be the first thing to go, then the drive shafts, then the diff mounts
Also as said, why is it runnin' ruff?

It's not running rough, just wobbling alot lol. I ain't got time or tools to do the mounts so I'll grin and bear it until the holiday is done and dusted.

You only need spanners, sockets and jack and spare knuckles:augie
If you you're going to leave it, then go giving it beans too often or you'll have more to fix:rolleyes:

Ok, anyone got a link for the mounts?

Found out what it is. When the pump was put back on, the fan was put on cockeyed and has sheered some blades off and is wobbling like mad. New fan for the win.

I am in Bexhill not a million miles from you, and I think I have a fan in my yard, if you are interested let me know and I will try and find it, Rick
