Well, sadly it looks like the robbin' b*****s (sorry government) have finally made up their minds about vehicle taxation. But they don't seem to have shouted about it like they did when they deffered the decision a few months back, even though it's going to be "slipped in" from 1 May this year!

So what are the key pieces of information?

1) Registation date? - was the vehicle registered before 23 March 2006?

2) Emmissions? - are the CO2 emissions greater than 225g/km?

How will it effect the Road Fund Licence?

If your vehicle emits more than 225g/km of CO2, then if your vehicle was registered BEFORE 23 MARCH 2006, then your annual RFL will cost you £215 (£235 in 2010).

However, if your vehicle emits more than 225g/km of CO2 and was registered on 23 MARCH 2006 or later, then your annual RFL will be whopping £405 (£435 in 2010).

All Land Rovers bar the new Freelander Td4 fall into this category and just checking the CO2 listings in Autoexpress, I notice the following Nissans do too:

X-trail (2.5 Aventura & Sport models only)

Murano

Pathfinder (all models)

Patrol (all models)

Wonder when Mr Darling will take to wearing a three-pointed hat like Dick Turpin!

Crap news for later cars - but could have been worse for pre-o6 models.

What a mess they are making of this country... if they dropped the fuel prices might not be so bad.. Maybe they should be made to account for the money they are making.:sly

i just this more people will be worrking at keeping there odler cars, unlike before when wed just get a newer one.

just so we dont pay the higher tax. its just not 4x4s remember other "family" cars fall into this too..

Too right mate - 225g/km is not particularly "generous" ......... many vehicles will fall into this category, incl loadsa MPVs!

Don't forget we just had a 2P per litre rise that had been delayed:eek:

Too right mate ........ like I said in original post, at least Dirk Turpin wore a 3-pointed hat (and a mask) ..... at a loss as to where it'll end - the motorist is just a "soft touch"

Sons fiance has a ford ka sports and thats going to be in the high tax bracket, she,s well pissed off about it as it never goes out on donny.Sons v70 is their main transport.

He doesnt need to, he can sneak around without confrontation.

I cant believe how much this government are costing "normal" folk who have toed the line :hmh:mad:

Whats the damage going to be for 'commercials' like the Navara, Hilux etc....weren't they restricted to £180 in the last round, regardless of year of manufacture?

i bet the french would'nt put up with it, and nor should we, but we had all this with petrol before and we did nothing really to support the demos, we just sit back and take it in the crutch, then moan when it happens, what would happen if no-one taxed their vehicles when up for renewall? :nenau

tezzer

I reckon the first few thousand would get stuck on and then the system would jam up........................any volunteers

BUT bear in mind seized vehicles are crushed within a few days I'm told

Are these tax bands based on manufactered outputs of the bad stuff?
OR are they based on "actual" output?
Reason I ask is I was chatting at length this w/e about LPG on oil burners:sly
Combine LPG with diesel and increase calorific value, soo, it should reduce waste out:nenau
Oh yeh, go faster too:naughty

It's based on the "official" CO2 output figures as stated on the V5 (log book)

Warning. Adult 18 Only. No Lightweights !

So the lying bastardos are not taxing "poluting" vehicles then!
Just robbing us blind:doh
Toerags:banghead

Is this the same for LPG, as a vehicle with LPG does not have emissions test with MOT.

I thought that I was greener than petrol and diesel so where’s my reward for this, Crap government, there not going to get my vote for the first time ever unless there’s change and this is to late now,

They are really pissing me off big time.

We really are a bunch of voiceless people, and you and i are not going to change a dam thing, So get use to it and pay up the extra cash.

Rant over, (For now anyway):banghead:banghead

well this is only my interpretation so check yourself, but firstly, if its pre-2001 then you're on a flat rate anyway so no worries.

If it falls into the later bands, and I think this applies whether pre-or post 2006, its all based on manufacturers CO2 emissions as noted on the V5 - not sure that can ever be changed as they have to have a benchmark I guess.

And if you pick any new petrol vehicle to calculate the tax rate (on the DVLA site) then go back and change fuel type to LPG, only one vehicle appears in the drop-down box and thats a Volvo! Suppose theres your answer mav.....
