to be fair, I don't mod cars as I don't keep them long, the T2 is the oldest one I have and due for replacement. I am also on the road a lot ad so only use oil as and where I can. But with rapeseed you can use a higher mix for longer and it is thinner at the same ambient temperature than KTC, it also saves the guesswork of what % you are actually running! I often pick up rapeseed at various retail outlets as low as 85p ish a liter whereas KTC would require a special journey to the cash and carry so would cost me more in miles driven and time.

Don't get me wrong I have tried them all and they all work, no question, but I wouldn't climb over a case of cheap Rapeseed to get to the KTC, if that makes sense - it is wodley regarded as the best oil for the job :thumb2
 
I agree with you plank. But I just chuck in whatever is the cheapest. I dont suppose you put super unleaded or optimax diesel in your other motors.

50/50 diesel is fine and safe for the mind. When it was really cold in march and feb earlier this year I would put 20ltrs veg in then drive to petrol station and put a £5 of unleaded in. Which by rough calcumatatioms is 15%. Lumpy first thing but comes to as it warms up.
 
You'll soon find when it's getting colder the car will be lumpy on start up. The older non intercooler ones have a hand throttle that's great for solving that little issue.

Best way to learn ratios, is keep a few little jars outside with oil mixed at different levels, but generally you'll need much more diesel to thin oil than you would using cheaper petrol. For -10 degress, I'd be putting in about 20% petrol and a dash of veggie boost to bring the cetane back up (when I remember).

One thing to note for any considering waste veg oil (WVO), mixing petrol with it will probably cause a little bit of drop out, so in this case it's better to mix in a container at least 24 hours before throwing in the tank. Not an issue with clean new veg though.
 
All good advice above.

Little tip for veg runners in winter who want to save the cost of buying petrol to thin.

If you go to most small garages and ask if they have any miss-fuel (this is the stuff they drain out of customers cars when they put petrol in their diesel or diesel in their petrol in error) they will usually be happy to give it to you for free.
In fact the last places I asked they were quite happy for me to take it away.

You can use this to thin your veg in winter for free.

The mix of fuel to diesel will vary so its sort of trial and error to get it spot on, but the Terrano is one of the most forgiving cars there is to what you throw in the tank.

cheapest diesel possible! but, on all my travels so far this year I have found rapeseed oil at lower prices than KTC! for example with the Farmfoods offers it is £17.91 for 20 liters (based on buying 50l in 10L containers) so there are no savings in using poorer quality stuff :thumb2

tests have shown that a mere 10% petrol blended with 90% veg oil halves the viscosity - Paddy Goat
 
I have never used it, I can imagine it's not something you want to spill on your paintwork!
 
yes acetone is good get it in 25 ltr drums, but do not leave the cap loose it evaporates like stink, Rick
 
when I used to race speedway bikes we used to run those on methanol ...... now that stuff freakin stinks :eek:
 
I've just come back from the gym where i discovered you can't wash you eyes with soap either! :eek:
