Tried to have a search on here for Veg oil in a 1998 2.8 Patrol.

Is this advisable/not advisable/terminal for these engines or fuel pumps?

It should be ok if mixed with diesel. I run my 4.2 Patrol on 70% brand new rapeseed and 30% diesel. I would avoid waste oil and bio because they all involve too much hassle.
I suggest doing some googling but I think you would be ok at 50/50. If in doubt just try a bit and build up.

Things to remember, carry a spare fuel filter just in case ( I have one but haven't needed it ) also when you start it from cold, don't leave it idling to warm it up because it increases the small chance of ring gumming when the oil is cold, thick and not atomising quite as well as it could.

I have no loss of performance, no increase in consumption but on very cold starts mine does run a little unevenly for the first 5 seconds or so.

I ran the pajero on 60/40 with no issues, in fact it ran smoother.

Do you put any acetone or vegiboost in?

I haven't tried acetone or vegiboost, didn't see that it was necessary. I did put a little petrol in when it was very cold nights because I work shifts and need it to start at stupid o'clock.

Hello,
I'm running a 1998 2.8 GR SE on my carefully homemade biodiesel, after a few problems, see other threads but non bio related, I have returned to running on it, and so far no problems.
I have run a Mercedes E300 for 30,000 miles on it and a succession of Discovery 300 tdi's for many thousands of miles on bio, no probs, and I can't see a reason why a Patrol can't run on it too..
We know that commonrail engines don't like it, and we know that certain fuel pumps don't like it, these Patrols aren't commonrail and the Zexel pump is reputed to be good with bio, so on that basis I have persevered, successfully.
My confidence has rather been shaken by the naysayers who rebuilt my fuel pump, badly, but that was in an effort to cover their a***s for poor diagnosis and poor workmanship.
I was told to wean the engine onto bio, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, good advice I reckon, not quite sure why though? but has never failed for me.
I'm happy to discuss and share experiences with any other members, the more wisdom the better, especially when it's so environmentally sound and more to the point, saves a fortune at the pumps............
Regards,
Tim
