I am sorley tempted to give it a go, so those of you with experience please fill me in.

Do i need to check the pump type or anything first? or just slap it in?

well i know transits have a ew different pumps and bosch pumps are best for SVO, but do 2003 T2' have different makes of fuel pumps?

I was at Zippy's pad today and bought all the Tesco veg oil they had in Devizes:lol 30 litres £12:augie
Anyway, poored it in in the car park and drove home for less than a tenner:thumbs
Good job me thinks, go for it Zippy :naughty

i ran mine on 100% veg oil for a good few months, the only dissadvantage was a slight drop in power and the smell that people behind had! lol but hey who cares i was in front :lol
when the weather got colder i noticed it being harder to start, so i just added some diesel to thin it down to a ratio of 50/50 and it was fine.
no adverse effects to the engine that i noticed and it still pulled like a train

Plank, if you have a search mate you'll see I posted loads about it a year ago. I ran on 100% no problems at all apart from getting caught out during a cold snap and even then that was sorted by getting a £20 heater off ebay. I saved an absolute fortune :thumb2

I couldnt find any disadvantage to it. Not even the smell...............caused quite a few heads to turn :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

When we went away in the caravan last June we did home to south west and back self contained with a boot full of vege oil drums and managed it overall for around half the price of regular diesel, it helped that makro in Bristol had a mega offer on The rest of the time I used to go to Makro on pay day and buy about £150 worth. I couldn't fit an IBC anywhere but if you can buy in bulk your on a real roll.

My advice would be introduce it gradually and look out for any unusual running, I did that over about a month which for me at the time was probably about 1500 miles :thumbs

As I intend keeping the jeep indefinitely I am considering looking at svo for that too.

Zippy, I got the cheap Rapeseed oil in tescos, but they may have restocked the shelf by now:augie
Sunflower oil works too but I dont think it was on the buy one get one free thing.

I used to chuck any kind of vege oil in, selection was based on price :thumb2

been running mine on 50% veg oil for a month now no probs after cleaning mini filter after it clogged up with my first tank of oil been fine since. been getting oil from batleys for £14.70 or bookers £15.86 for 20 litres but as said further up the thread the cheaper the better.

Yes but what about the fuel pump?? Mine is the Zexal fuel pump and i have heard that it not suitable, I know one member uses it with a Zexal but any others? regards bri

yes Bri that was my concern a couple of replies have been fomr td drivers rather tha tdi's as weel and there mucst be some difference

The problem that you should all be aware of, is that it is not any specific make of pump that is the problem, it is who made the rubber/neoprene/whatever seals in the pumps, for it is these that suffer, and Bosch for example will get their supplies from different sources, all will be good for derv, but no way of knowing for other fuels, we had problems a few years ago with thermostatic rad valves, rubbers swelling up, valve inop, reacting to a particular CH system additive, but from the same valve manufacturer only some of the valves suffered, turned out they had different suppliers for the internals, Rick

I agree completely with what your saying but surely svo going past the seals its the same stuff as you put in your stomach I cant see it have anything nasty in it :nenau
