Nice one, cant argue with you, a chap near to us has a wedding photography business and believe it or not he will only take photos IF you want them standing aside HIS prized Mini van, it is quirky but works, he has a 9 mnth waiting list, think Im in the wrong business:lol :lol :lol

Luvglove, its extra commercial advertising if you have a quirky van but tread with caution, you could be in the position of constantly repairing the van whilst you should be selling your wares :doh :doh :doh

Nice idea thou

dont go for the transit as the have suffer with starter motors and dual mass flywheel and clutch probs mercs, vivaro, trafics are good but for build and reliability i would go for the transporter t5 or crafter dependent on what size you are looking for.

and I've also been told the Tranny is a bit tight for tall people (I'm 6'3")....

Saw a chap yesterday in a 52 reg FWD tranny that had just turned 300k. He said just about everything mechanical had been replaced, more than once in some cases- was on it's 2nd engine, which was about buggered again.

They were going to scrap it when it died as the bodywork was about f*cked also.

A couple of years ago I had to call out the AA to a rental Transit that had failed to start 200 miles from home. When the guy arrived he was in a fairly new Vito. He said he had had the van about 3 or 4 months as a replacement for a Transit, and it was the worst decision the AA had made. His Transit, when it was pensioned off, had over 200K on the clock and still was 100% reliable. The Vito on the other hand already had bits dropping off - he reckoned they were simply not up to the job, and apparently quite a few of the other AA mechanics were saying the same. I notice that, by and large, the AA have now gone back to Transits!

Well last night I larfed my borrox off and thought "what am I doing". Had to deliver the first bit of furniture to a very well-off lady who's house was 200 yds up an ice-covered sloping driveway. She had parked her car on the road because she said the driveway was apparently impassable (you know whats coming don't you)....she even sent her old man down to the road to see me in and help me carry the bit of kit up the drive.

Well needless to say, I was driving the wifes automatic with my twin-axle Ifor Williams on the back and it went up there like it was on tarmac.....bloke was gobsmacked, buggered if I know why, just get a 4x4 mate??

But I'm now going back to thinking about putting an alloy shell on the trailer, which is an 8' x 5', so just as much room as a van, and see how that goes....since I've already got the trailer and the ally would be say a £500 outlay, its a lot more cost-effective in the short-term....plus no commercial vehicle insurance either LOL.

But thanks for your input lads, I'll be bearing it all in mind when the times comes to bite the bullet!:thumb2

Wise move in todays climate..... and the sensible thing to do....

:thumbs :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

delete 'todays' and insert 'welsh' LMAO:thumb2

Wise move in the welsh climate, and the sensible thing to do, is that ok for you:thumbs:thumbs

Had a thought thou, why not get the alloy top signed up with your business name etc in vinyl lettering, in fact theres a chap on here who does lettering, (remember briggies "mistral" ) cant remember his name at present (sorry fella) then everytime you do a delivery your advertising what you do and bet youll pick up business from the neighbours lol Mrs bouquet or is it bucket :lol:lol

Then at least you look a little more professional when turning up with the trailer, stops folks from thinking your some sort of pig or goat breeder.

In fact it is the best thing to do as I tend to notice more trailers than vans especially if they have nice signing on :clap :clap :clap :clap

It could be quite a smart outfit if you added some magnetic signs for the t2 and then simply peel off when youve finished / want to.

God ,I have a fantastic business brain, especially for other peoples businesses:lol:lol

The consultancy bill is in the post Paul :sly :sly:naughty:naughty:lol:lol

I 've had an 06 Vito 109 from new, It's just clocked 170k only major works was a gearbox rebuild at 140K that cost 740quid + 15K servive intervals. Double side doors are great, there rear wheel drive which is crap in the snow if there empty. There crap if you need to sit as a passenger. Your better off with the CD111 or 115 They ARE quick and go for the med wheel base.
But I like mine and would have another if offered a Transit!!
Beware of low milage vans they will have been clocked, knocked and bodged!!
i reckon mines good for another 200K, after that it has every right to die.. No signs of rot yet!!

I haven't read the whole thread (obviously) but the flywheel and starter problens associated with transits were limited to one batch of 2.4 rear wheel drive versions at about the year 2000! The vauxhaul/renault/nisssan van is notorious for its 6 speed box packing up!

My choice, and i do like my vans! a 2.4 rwd transit 330 (will carry a ton and a half) about 38 mpg and very comfortable, my son in law is 6'4" and has never complained about leg or head room!
