Because I considered putting a Tunit on my Maverick I corresponded with Jamie of Tunit. He just told me that they have a used tunit II coming in as a person is changing vehicles. I am not sure how much it is, but if someone is looking you might want to contact him and get in line. However, he also told me that they have a new version of the tunit for our rigs with a faster processor (probably why the price jump). So you would have to decide if you want the older model for the lower price or the state of the art one. :nenau

I found a company here that has a unit similar to the tunit model but about 120 pounds lighter, but seems to function the same way--in that it is programmable and adjustable AND they do the installation and testing on their rolling road etc. :naughty

Yesterday I prepared for this installation by removing the EGR and accompanying valve flap in the intake, cleaning the inter-cooler and intake manifold, fixing a gasket leak on the intake manifold, and installing a K&N filter in the air box.

I will let you all know how it turns out.

They conected the little box up to my ECU and all works. It is nice to feel that extra kick. :naughty On monday they will put it on the rolling road to show just how much it is developing.

Mike

did they put it on the rollers BEFORE so you know what the change is?

Zippy, No they did not. I asked about that and they said that they would just turn the unit off and establish the base and then the 4 different positions which will each demonstrate the overall change. I will try to post the picture of the map when it is all done.

Mike

Sounds good there mate, have you got a link to the company ? Could be interested :naughty

OK guys I am going to attempt to show what I did. I have had a couple problems on going for the last year in which I have owned the maverick. First the first intake gasket was leaking. And secondly, the oil/crankcase vapor separator is leaking from a joint.

I also planned to remove the EGR and the things that are associated with it while I was so far into things.

First I had to take off the inter-cooler in order to gain access to everything.

You can see the oil covered oil separator and the vacumn hoses that will also no longer be needed--I will just plug the ports on the actuating solenoids with tube caps.

It is easier to get to the last intake manifold nut if you remove the EGR valve first. I recently bought some ratchet wrenches and these helped tremendously. The EGR is in the back with the dot of yellow paint. I also want to remove the intake flap valve as it is not needed without the EGR valve.

The intake body with valve, shaft and activating diaphram all removed.

I had some stainless remnants so I cut out a couple of blocking plates from 3+ mm and epoxied them to the intake and exhaust pipe.

I was too impatient and cheap to wait for a new intake gasket so I made one. The old one was missing 2 sections of about 1 inch and 1/2 inches. The leaking places were partially plugged with oily sludge stuff.

At this point it is simply a matter of putting things back together. I left off the EGR valve, intake flap, and associated tubing. I capped the ports with silicone plugged pieces of tubing. The ECU can tell them to open, but nothing happens. :clap

I will try to get more info about the performance unit on Monday with the power maps.:thumbs

I thank the many whom I have read on this forum and the downloads for the guidance in doing all of these things.

Mike

Good job Mike , just what I did to mine :thumbs Can't wait to see the power logs :sly

Makeitfit, There is NO way that mine will come anywhere close to your highly modded ride. :bow But it would be nice to have some low end grunt for pulling my trailer. I will try to get more specific info and post that on Monday.

Mike

I am somewhat bummed about not being able to put it on the rolling road today. But it is rescheduled for Wednesday!:clap I can tell that there is definitely more of pull from lower down on the RPM band. I wish that it was even more right off idle, We will see what we can do.

I am thinking through what more I can do to make it breathe easier. I suppose the turbo down pipe and exhaust is the area to think about.

Mike

I already bought the K&N that goes into the original housing. But you are right It could stand to have the intake into the filter opened up a bit, as is often mentioned on here. :thumbs

.

Hi mike what is the company called that do the Tunit style box ? And how much did you pay if you don't mind ?

Mike
Yep the turbo down pipe is a proper stinka and very restrictive
You'll need to get a custom one done and go for 2 1/2" bore :thumbs

I am not 100% positive, but I believe that the company that makes the box that I bought is called "V-Tech". The company seems to originate in Germany, but they have distributors all over Europe. Their web site, http://vtechtuning.eu, seems to be more complete and with greater detail in languages other than English.

The Polish site gives specific prices and places, the German and Polish sites talk specifically about the VP37 pump. It is interesting that the installation page for the Terrano 2.7 td, 125 hp shows the unit mounted in the engine compartment, but the installers connected mine directly to the ECU, which is located under the dash and a significant amount of work to get to. The installation instructions also are specifically for the Zexel pump and Hitachi MAF.

I paid 1400PLN--318 Euro or 256 GBP with VAT included (here that is 23%). From the Vtech.pl site: The box all by itself is 144 GBP, installation is 11 GBP, (but that may be the installation under the bonnet and not next to the ECU.) The rolling road test is additional as are other features.

I am looking forward to getting the test maps back and see what is really happening under the bonnet.

I wonder how much heat sink to our inter-cooler will affect things on a rolling road test?

Mike

It's a quick run probably and won't get very hot. You can soak the I/C first too to help a bit, as long as they have the big fan switched on :D
As you say the Vtech one works on advancing the pump I think, so delivering more fuel earlier than usual. You probably wont get any more power at the top end but get there quicker, which is good :sly
