Im free from 7.30pm if you want to pop over... bring your tester as ours are at work.

Digital Multimeter, keep one in each car, one in the garage, one in the house.
Sometimes Maplin sell them for a few £ , even CPC farnell, free delivery too.

Sometimes when I am playing with circuits I am using two or three at a time.

I also have a five digit one, for measuring really small currents and voltages.
Another has a thermometer input, with frequency input too.

Ok mate nice one thanks. Will have a play around with it tonight if no luck will let u know

No worries, will be a poor conectio or faulty switch.

Cncfabs will have a switch im sure or solorman

ok, ive just had a play around with it, and it seems that the plug on the top of the switch is slightly loose, and is moving about, thus causing no connection, a slight wiggle and i have lights again! not sure how to fix a loose plug though? new switch?

No brake lights either...

I have a similar problem, a few weeks ago my passenger side (off side?) brake light went out. Changed the bulb and neither worked, swapped bulbs and they worked fine. On Friday they all stopped working, even the high level one in the window.
So I checked the two easy to get at bulbs and they work. Tested with an old car battery.
Swapped about AND replaced fuse.
Removed both switches from under the pedal and they both passed continuity tests. The plugs and wires seemed OK to my highly amatuer eyes

I still think it's one of the switches (why are there 2 anyway?), is there any other simplish test I can do? Or is it time to go to the garage?

Thanks in advance :D

One switch is for the brake lights and the other is so ECU is aware you have your foot on the brake!

I don't suppose you know which is which, and would the ECU one breaking also stop the lights from working?

I won't have access to the manuals until this evening.
But, if you want to check, I'd start with the EL section for the brake light wiring then then the EC section will probably show the ECU brake switch.
