Urgent 97 Maverick 2.7 Currently Terminal Rear Spring Upper Mount Corrosion

Hi All.

My beloved 1997 2.7 TD Maverick is terminal!!!! unless I can repair/replace the corroded L/H rear coil spring upper bracket that is welded to the chassis.
Currently its up on a colleagues ramp awaiting ideas.
I can’t be the first person to suffer terminal corrosion in this area.

Does anyone know of a ready made aftermarket Terrano bracket that can be welded in place of the original.
Or have I got to carefully cut the existing one off the chassis, rebuild in some way then weld back on.

Not the easiest thing to do and area to work on, may even have to cut out the floor to get good welding access.

Anyone any experience or Ideas, needed fast info please.

Did mine a couple of years back.
I fabricated my own.
I had no problems with access but i have 2" body lift
Have seen folks that have cut the floor for better access.

There was someone making them on the alternative Facebook group a few years back. I'm not on facebook anymore so not sure if they are still doing it.

I made my own from scratch but if I did it again I would of probably used some C channel across the chassis and let the springs sit in that. With a few tabs to keep them sliding inwards. If you get what I mean, If not I can try drawing a diagram. I went through the floor as it was shot anyway, but could probably be done without without cutting into the boot floor.

Having done similar on my Patrol recently, I would go with Fez and fit a U beam across the chassis cutting the floor out for good access, Rick

I did the channel section fix on the Black Pearl.
Much easier than individual spring hangers, plus it helps brace the chassis.

Nice, thanks. Did you leave the old spring hangers under that section? No pics underneath so hard to tell. How thick is that metal used for the section, 3 mm?

Spring perches were welded too then Channel over the lot. I used it as a winch tray base too, so it would have been 3mm minimum
