There I am, pootling about locally when I make a slight turn right and a hideous grinding screech occurs somewhere low on the offside.

Look for casualties: No bodies.
Look for debris: All nearby scenery intact.
Gently check car behaviour: Nothing unusual.

Drive on for about a quarter mile. Apply brakes. Mangled banshee noise again.

Same checks: Nothing.
Pull over and check underside, nothing untoward to my unskilled eye.

Off to Swifts Motor Services. Take mechanic for drive. Mak behaves perfectly until last right hander, then more godawful noise.

"That should be easy to find." Says mechanic.

Mak goes onto ramp and I go for a smoke.

"It's your side step." Took him less than five minutes.

It's not the bar or mounts of the side step, it's the mounts for the alloy plate that acts as the surface of the step. They'd corroded and sheared to varying degrees, the noise coming from the rear of the step when the vibrations hit just the right resonance.

Step plate removed and scrapped. Side step bar remains. Can be fixed eventually but at least it wasn't horrendous mechanical nastiness.

Oh, the nearside step is fine and both are Nissan standard units.

Makes a change don't it :D
Now in my world they're gay and need binnin' anyway :lol
Glad you weren't stung :thumbs

That's coz you live in the land of pygmy Terranos. Poor things don't even get big enough to grow a second pair of doors. Put full size side steps on and you'd have a dodgem...

*chuckle*

easy fix, just drill through and use dome head gutter bolts, did mine 6 months ago, Rick

I's being ganged up on :D

Rick, the step had actually corroded through at the mount point on the step itself in a couple of places. Really was in a shite state, gawd knows why.

i wondered y i have the side bars but no plate on them :lol I just class mine as rock sliders n they do take some battering plus i only ittle so i needs them expecially with my mud tyres on! n they're only 31's :jesterbg

Pah, football is gay :lol

Now that I do agree on.. I had a panic attack the other day, when in a charity shop, and a strange lady grabbed me by the arm, and said, "Your a man, you'll know, what colour are Crystal Place"... I had to admit I had no idea, but thankfully neither did the other guy in the shop, so I was let off..
