Hi
I've got a Terrano 2.4 petrol and when I put my foot down it will not go over 2000 revs it just judders I see alot off answers about the diesel terrano but nothing on the petrol one
Can anybody help
Thanks
Phil

What condition are your plugs, leads & dizy cap like sorry it's the 1st thing off the top of my head

Changed all you said except the fuel filter so it could be that then! GOD I hope so its hard driving about and keeping under 2000 revs lol

It does sound like fuel starvation, the fuel filter is always overlooked on servicing being tucked away as it is, so it may not have been changed for some time.

Just one more thing does the 2.4 petrol have a air flow meter and if so could this be the problem ?

you want to look for chap on here called hummingbird he has his petrol upto axls in water and mud quite often hell be able to give you few hints on what it could be ill bet!

Have you checked you're getting full throttle at the throttle body, the cable could have jumped or partially snapped and not be letting you get full throttle. Start engine, then move throttle manually under bonnet to see if that lets it rev further. Or get someone to hold the throttle to the floor whilst you check to see if there is any more movement left at the throttle.

Does it sound like its running on all 4 pots properly?

Is the lack of revs accompanied by any smoke from the exhaust?

One possibility is the CAT is knackered and has got at least partially blocked, this would have the effect of limiting the revs.

All pretty usual petrol engine stuff I'm afraid. On the whole no one seems to have had any problems with the petrols so we're all a bit stumped. Mines played up but thats been the gas system.

Will wait for replies to above then I'll consult the manual.

OOPS MINE IS GAS AS WELL BUT IT RUNS OK ON GAS BUT SEEMS A LITTLE UNDER POWERED IT IS JUST WHEN YOU SWITCH OVER TO PETROL IT PLAYS UP. THE REV CABLE IS OK AND NO SMOKE

Have you checked all the leads where the emulator plugs into the injectors? Try disconnecting them all and plugging directly into the fuel injectors without the emulator, obviously set it to run on petrol. Take care not to loose the littl spring clips off all the connectors (like I've done)

i'LL DO THAT LATER RON.... av the petrol ones got a MAF sensor on them?

Yes it's part of what looks a bit like a carb under the horseshoe shaped bit of the inlet trunking - didn't know that just found it in manual.

Have just read that if MAF is malfunctioning the engine goes on to safe mode and will not go above 2400 rpm - that would seem to be your problem. Try cleaning MAF as per diesels.

Having trouble with locating the MAF sensor I have one connection into the bottom of the horse shoe shaped card top box and one on the side off the carb wall which I think got the word hitachi on it any idea or picture could help. I'm looking to get a manual for it, but not having much luck only ones I can find are the diesel manual

Phil sending you another email, with the complete Engine control section attached, pages 180 onwards might help. Shows you how to do self diagnosis with the ECU, different to Diesel before anyone chips in with shorting wires, thats not how it works.
