I am nearly ready to buy a set of new front tyres for my T2 and due to the cost of them will probably have to get something from a budget range.

A quick search of the web show that you can pay anything from £60.00 to £160.00, but does anyone have any tips on where or what to buy. My tyre sizes are 235x70x16 and the existing ones have worn more on the inside, which I presunme is a tracking issue. A quick call to a local fitters revealed that they won't do tracking adjstments on vehicles with 'multiple bars'...? I couldn't confirm whether the T2 has them or not.

Thanks for any advice

Alan

I'd suggest they are not very good fitters then LOL. Check the level of your vehicle, i.e. is the front well down compared to the back? if it is, it needs torsion bars adjusting and then tracking checked again....wear on the inside seems fairly normal for these trucks.

As to tyre type, well budget aside, I'd say you need to decide what your most common use is. I do a small bit of off-roading but only soft stuff, and on the road I tend to drive fairly fast, so prefer a road-biased tyre thats quiet at speed and grippy. Mud tyres, for example, give you more traction, but won't be quite so grippy - try coming off the motorway at speed on to a roundabout and you'll soon find out the difference!

My newer truck has Runway Enduro HTs on and they are fine; the wifes has cheap £60 generics on hers and they are absolutely fine in normal road use and light offroading. But both struggled a bit on very slippery slopes in the recent snow.

So people will suggest their faves I'm sure but decide how much offroading you want to do, is it rough or easy, and how robust is your road driving....you might even end up getting two sets!

Try ebay put in 235 70 16 in search area. Theres someone in Derby that does remolds and offers free fitting.

Thanks for the very quick response guys.

I mainly bought the Terrano for towing a Caravan, but it is also my only vehicle, which will be primarily used for road work.

I'll check the way the vehicle sit on a bit of level ground as well, I'll also speak to some different fitters.

I never thought of E Bay, but I'll give it a try.

Much appreciated

Alan

Rememer if buying fro ebay you need to buget £5-10 per tyre for them fitting/balancing and disposal ofthe old tyre.

Re levels, some say (that sounded a bit Jeremy Clarkson) the truck should sit dead level...I'm not so sure its that precise; theres actually a measurement in the online manual showing the desirable height differential (about 1.25 inches I think) between inner and outer ends of the front suspension wishbone which is where the measure should be taken. Certainly if they look level when you squint underneath at the front, then its out. But the tyre wear could be either normal or just tracking-related. If you've got someone that uses laser tracking in your area, thats the place to go....

I bought a set of Kingpin Technic Tracker AT tyres 235/75/15 for about £200 off ebay , I am 90% road and 10% water and farm tracks, work fine with no issues.

I recon they will last about 2 years , they are 15months old now and done around 10k.

Gonna do a 2" spring lift them replace the with something taller , ideas on whats gonna fit would be helpfull.

they are a TAD smaller then 235/70-16.. whats was your size befor
