Hi, having lifted my 2003 xtrail suspension by an inch (by fitting tjm shocks and springs) I'm now thinking of putting 17" or 18" wheels on my X-Trail (the fatface version of the xtrail in 2004 had 17" wheels on standard shocks). Main reason is to further enhance ground clearance. Anyone any idea what Mud Tyres are available for those size tyres? - there seems little selection above 16" wheels size on the web - and if so would you have any idea what tyre profiles would be best?

Cheers.

You'll find you have a larger choice and they'll be cheaper if you fit bigger tyres to 16" wheels rather than move to 17s or 18s. Disco 2 owners (18" wheels) tend to go back to 16s for deent tyres.

I down sized to 15inch steel wheels and bought bigger tyres Phantom for same reasons. I can recommend BFG muds :p

Tyres

Cooper is the only 1 I can think of at the min who is making at & mt's for the larger size rims

Thats very helpful thank you. I've had a look at these tyres and the Discoverer ST and SST look very promising and fit on 17 and 18 inch wheels. I'm popping over to see them at a local supplier tomorrow.
Much appreciated! -cheers-

How about Grabber AT2s. I'm looking at 245x70x17 for my Terrano at the moment. Don't know what size the trail will take (I suppose I should check mine) but they're a good all round tyre.

Edit (Oops make note to one's self to check date of previous post)
