1997 T2, 2.4 petrol.

1. Can anyone confirm there should be a dashboard light ON when using dipped beam please?

2. Radio display only shows the odd broken line. No indication of radio channel or cd track.
Anyone know of there is a fix for this please?

Thanks,

Mally

My 96 T2 has no light on the dash for dipped beam, only high. The radio seems like there is no code entered, you will need the radio code to fix it, possibly a Nissan main dealer could help or it may be in the handbook or on a sticker on the radio itself.

I believe the indication that you have dipped beam on is the dash lighting up....

I have a Mk 1 and a Mk 2 on both the dash illumination comes on with sidelights putting headlights on dipped has no effect, main beam the usual blue main beam indicator, Rick

I can see when my lights are on, the night becomes day, it's magic I tell you . Why do you need a light inside aswell ? :doh

Because there are plenty of tossers who can't actually see past the windscreen but somehow manage to retain a driving licence!:doh

Obviously a few readers didn't understand my point regarding the lights.
To clarify, should there be an indicator light on the dash board, as with high beam. I didn't want to dismantle the dash to untimatly find a non-existent bulb.
The radio and cd player both work but the display doesn't.
Sorry for the confusion.

PS my visio past the windscreen is quite good thanks

No there is no dip beam indicator on the dash and your radio problem is a quite common one which usually requirs a replacement radio

thats a no then, and just to add theres no indication the front fogs are
on either, the rear fog has a tell tale. odd really as if you install after
market front fogs theres either usually a n illuminated switch supplied
or recommended in the wiring diagram.

On my 2001 2.7 with the Marelli digital clocks, there is both a front and rear fogs tell tail. Front is green, rear is orange, right hand side of the speedo.

If they come on with out a tell tail then they are classed as driving lights, you can check this by turning them on with side lights and high beam, if they stay on then they are driving lights, if they go off they are fog lights. I have loads of fun explaining this to the boys in blue! :lol

 So as driving light's (my xtrail has no tell tale either does that mean you can use em any time :D

nope front fogs next to headlights work with minimum of sidelights. no connection
with main beam.

not played with them much on the mk4 but on mk2 their light pattern was not
unlike dipped head, almost pointless other than a duplicate.

They don`t have the correct beam to be fog lights and they are set to high to be of any use in fog, therefore i conclude they are driving lights, which incidently arevery good on unlit country roads.

big to differ, they are similar to dipped headlights though not same.

checked my mk4 and yes there are tell tales now for both front and rear.

not had enough fog to test them for a while though used them on the mk2.

they are in an odd position, the mk1s had them lower under headlights in the
bumpers so looked more fog light in style.

though i reckon even in mk2 onwards position they are still legally positioned
as fogs. the fact they dont boost the dipped heads light field or come on or
go off with main beam suggest they are not driving/spot lights which again I
would expect to increase vastly the even the standard main beams.

they are also on the same switch as the rear fogs.

conclude that their ability was reduced in the front end restyle of '96.

perhaps a mk1 owner would like to comment on their vehicle's lighting ability.

the fogs come on providing the side lights are on which means they
can be used instead (and as well as dipped heads)

played with them tonight and the light field is below the dips, just.

again would need some fog, or snow to really test, but should mean
that the light bounces/reflects back to distract and effectively
cuts under the weather to show the road.

i'm sure someone has said they also come in handy on dark lanes
at slow speeds.

A very clear and concise explanation of fog lights v driving lights, mine do not come on unless main lights are on therefore they are driving lights (apparently)
http://www.fizzindi.demon.co.uk/fogheight.htm

bulk of this is refering to spots / driving which by definition are not fogs.

the nearest it gets to fogs is ref to weather and distances for mounting
from floor and sides of vehicle.
