ok ive been thinking of twin headlights for my tdi..... can i buy them anywhere ?

if not can i make my own ?

whats the rules for lights ( road legal )?

where do i buy the lights parts from ?

any input would be good :thumbs

So what arrangement have you got at the moment Ex? Is it the headlight/foglight combo or just a single round headlight and no foglight?

i got the single round head and little fogs in those horrid chrome surrounds but i was thinking of those light conversions you used to get for the boy racers mk5 escorts etc.
not seen them for t2 so thought id make some.so i will have 2 big lights on the front and put the fogs elsewhere

so really need ideas on light units and wireing etc
im sure a can make the surrounds in fibreglass or something

if like mine then smaller ones are fogs, but extremely bright and high set, more like dipped
main beam. could possibly wire them so as well as operating on fog circuit, come on with
main beam/flash. so if on sides or non flashing would light all four. Did have a pair of
9" oh - err mrs, truck driving lights with side light bulb built in. Perhap could get factory
fogs to illuminate as side lights are dip circuit.

believe dim / dip is set up where both bulbs og given circuit are in series for dip then
parallel'ed for main beam.

much bigger and would need to alter grill trim, note on terrano the fogs are at centre
line of main beam where as maverick's are above so potentially room for another mini
lamp beneath, almost like landy set up where second mini lamp is indicator and first
is side lamp. landy as defender and also latest retro rangey style.

Personally I'd have gone for a decent pair of driving lights, KC Hi-liters or something, but I've no idea where you'd put a mounting bracket without an ABar.....I haven't looked but surely you could get something made up that would fit....it would also save all that hacking about...

Not fully decided what I'm fitting for Mac 4x4 Challenge.

Definitely going for 4 roof lights - cibie Oscar+'s
Pair of rear mounted Bosch lights as work/reversing lights on back of rack.

And then its decide what to do up front.

Hella 2000's like I used to have on the old Mav some time ago, or maybe some Cibie Super Oscars if I can find a pair of shells to but the Bi-Oscar lenses I've got in - these take H4 bulbs and have both spot and fog light beams (in one unit) depending which filament you light.

Or............. I might just see if this will fit the Mk3 bonnnet...................

A thought for MK1 owners, I was thinking about it but never got around to it.

Howabout fitting Mk3 Capri or old 3 series BMW twin round headlight. They'll be about the same size as the standard headlight and the Capri onces at leat come attached to a backing plate that could be welded or bolted on place - just a though - would look dead mean I think.

im thinking along these lines

i guess buy another set of lights is the way then cut and glue two together . still got to sort the grill out too but i will loose some of that getting twin lights in

but you get the idea

yes will have a look at the sizes in the breakers... i bet something will fit

Funny TRS when I 1st read this thread that was what I was thinking:lol:lol:augieplus you would have the proper light surround as well:thumb2
TBH Extreme I think if you go ahead with it your going to loose a 1/3 of the grill area due to the lights so a new grill will alao have to be made up:augie

I measured up the twin headlamps on my cortina and they are 5 1/2" lights instead of the7"s you got now. So if you go for a pair they take up about 340mm, so only about 30mm into the grill.
They are same size as capri too. They come with a backing plate so it can be gashed to the body somehow.:thumbs
Good luck

on pimp my read last night they took a yank ford escort close to mk4s fitted a
bmw 3 series twin clusters and modified front end and bonnet, on rear fitted
amg merc rear clusters!

are you saying Extreme is a pimp? Just cos he's welsh and got three sheep?

But Extreme IS NOT WELSH ...... He's an asylum seeker from ENGLAND !!!!

the bumper is strong enough for spots, I drilled two mounts, if you feel around
thru the vents just beneath top of bumper you'll find the re-enfoced are and
where to drill, i used spreader washers to accomodate trucker 9" spots though
have been off for 2 years and needed access to rad when it was full of mud
for the power washer and never got round to putting them back on. were handy
as could just see tops of them over end of bonnet to indicate where front of
car is/was!
