Got some time today at last to get my twin fans on istead of the big whirlygig viscous jobbie:)
Scrap RS 2.8 donated its fans. Got some 3mm alu sheet and bent the ends to be the same size as the original plastic cowl. I cut the height to include the top bkts, so they will bolt back on the rad as was before. The RS fans have a neat pair of plastic clips at the top, so I used them to slide over the alu:thumbs

The fans fit a treat so I just marked round them and cut out plenty of room for the air to get through, and mud to get out:augie

I liberated the wifes washing airer tie down cleat to use for the bottom pegs:sly
So they'll just drop in the existing holes at the bottom of the rad:thumbs

Then I just drilled and bolted the assy together ready to fit the truck

Just need to get the viscous fan off tomorrow and wire the thing in:D
I've got a twin thermostat thing on the way so one fan comes on first at 88 degrees and then the second one comes in later but cant remember the temp for the second one:doh
Anyway, easy

phnar, nop just jigsaw and a quick blast with the angle grinder to get the hairy bits off:lol

It'll be interesting to hear if they make any difference to performance or MPG. It'll also be interesting to know just how often they kick in. Looking nice and neat so far, good luck with the rest of the job.

Jim

It may be wishful thinking but I seem to remember something like a horse power or two to run the viscous:augie
None of my jobs are directly to do with fuel saving, just more POWER:sly

neat job :thumb2 just been looking for some pics I had of an electric fan on a cavalier years ago , bits of metal strip (as in what you used to use for fitting radios) everywhere :D

nice job . really nice. just a shame the engine had issues before you started . to get the best out of the mods

OY.! :hmh
Angle Grinding.! :naughty
Where was the phone call.! :nono

:jesterbg

Looking good M8 :thumbs

bloody cynic :D
no it had issues , some of themods might have fixed them . cos itwas fast last time i went in it . but as it was not actually fixed . we wont know the full potential of the mods he's done...:bow:bow:bow

I think I've done the issues now:D
New no1 injector, dumped the egr valve, dumped the throttle body flap thing, cleaned I/C and dumped the oil feed to intake.
So it is going well at the mo, and still to do the turbo change and the gas:naughty

Right it's in and just about enough room :augie much less room than I thought actually, but there'll be plenty once the body gets lifted:sly
Here's the assy. on the rad ready to go back in
Photo265.jpg

Here's where that ruddy viscous fan thing used to be
Photo268.jpg

In the end there was only about 5mm between these fans and the end of the pulley  but that's enough for now:thumbs
Photo270.jpg

Wiring the little darlings in now then off to hit the mud:naughty

Gorden bloody bennet, the trucks quiet without that big whirligig up front:lol
UNTIL that is two mean old leccy fans go on! One seems quite enough to do the job at the mo, two just dropped the temp really quick:D
However, I do appear to have dropped a bit of a bollock:augie
Any guesses?:nenau

Yep they're the wrong way round:doh:lol
So I've got to take it off again and refit on the other side of the rad:augie
I thought it was too good to be right first time:doh
Hey ho, back to the shed:eek:

Cant you just switch the wires to reverse the fans

Cant you just switch the wires to reverse the fans
No because the blades only work propery in one direction.
However I've found since that I can reverse the whole fan assy :D
I want the fans to pulling cold air through the rad, so the front of the rad is clear . That'll allow plenty of space for the winch and the reduced overhang at the front(next job)
Also means the rad can be pressure washed easily after the mud baths:sly

Well done that taff :augie :lol :lol :lol
Still got some Irish blood though...
As doing it in reverse :augie :lol :lol :lol

Seriously :thumbs Good job M8 :bow :thumbs

Is was quite funny actually cause first it wouldnt get hot enough to switch on the fans. So I did 20 odd miles and still only mid gauge with no fan at all!:thumbs
So I stuck a switch on to manualy make them go:sly
So did that then went round the frontto see how they were going and nearly had my eyebrows off:lol
OOPh there's some hot air blowing out the front:lol:D
