Okay give me the bad news, When accelerating and the turbo kicks in there is a definite whistle [I seam to remember a different sound in my diesel several years ago]....have the seals worn and if they have is it costly?

Got a whistle on ours Like Jace says ours uses no oil & pulls well so not thought alot about it, sounds pants on the motorway though

Ta..... well thats good news. I have a week left of a short warranty.

I wouldn't be happy if mine didn't whistle :p

i think if you go in and advice them of problem if it breaks just outside warranty it can be covered under existing fault what reasnoble time will be is another matter lol

i was told by a garage once if you cant hear it it aint working

Must be working just quiet  as I dragged raced a disco today off roundabout & won

i can relate to that sweety

discos always seem flat whenu rev em but they pull stuff really well my mate has his towing his 2.5t machine with fuel drums and alsorts extras piled on pulls well up hills

Mine did just whistle, but at the moment it is sounding like a cat
swung by the tail!!! in fact passengers have thought it was a police car
behind us when its spooling up!!! that cant be healthy i think, can it?

Mine is slow from start and doesn't have much top speed either, but it pulls well and off road it comes into its own having the low gearing and power I need to tackle all obstacles so far. On road I find I need to use lower gears than in a Nissan to maintain the same road speed, off road I can use a higher gear 2nd (or 3rd sometimes) to do what I had to do in 1st in the Patrol. The engine is noisey anyway and has no sound deadening fitted, but I sometimes wonder if the turbo is working on road as its sluggish.

all ones ive driven been uuurrgghhh very slow to rev if u get my neaning once there moving there ok just real sluggish makes no difference if 200/300tdi all they did is alter few basic bits and moved turbo higher, i believe the pump can be tweaked easily if its a bosch unit every man and his dog does bigger intercoolers and lift kits etc etc thats the good news!

I might think of a bigger intercooler once I've sorted all its little problems out, lots of earthing probs(seem to be on top of them now) and oil seals seem to be going in various places. I'm saving for a standard 2" lift kit now.

check your intercooler and pipes for leaks that would cause a whistle

You do hear more whistling if you have Snorkel. Any of em sound like Roger Whittaker?.........I`ll get me coat.......It`s an Afgan
