TURBO

Hi chaps,

the turbo on my 52 nissan terrano 2.7 diesel makes what seems to be a for want of a word a turbo whistle and is quite loud not overbearingly but you can hear it is this normal or is it on the way out? There are no problems with smoke or starting.
One other thing i have noticed at night time when you first start the vehicle and then turn the lights on they seem to be bright but then they go like another shade brighter as if they have recieved a power boost could this be an earthing problem?

that whistle is usualy from the flexi in the dow npipe

ah i do have a hole in the front exhuast in the flexi pipe it is blowing having this fixed tomorrow do ya think that should cure it?

yes, I think it will, they usually sound a little more 'raspy' with a new exhaust so will take a few miles to go mack to normal but will be much better straight away. If not let us know and we can try again :thumb2

Regarding the head light brightness, it could be caused by say the glow plugs being switched off.

You need to monitor the battery voltage before, straight after start up, and what the voltage is when the lights go bright.

You might see:-

Before. 12.5 volts
After. 13.5 volts
Bright lights 14.2 volts


The battery may not be up to it.

the battery may be the answer got this truck off my son and i know that he had a new battery about 3yrs ago and he had a smaller capacity battery fitted to what should have been fitted that was down to cost what he could afford at the time. so a fresh battery of the correct capacity may sort it, as i say had no problems starting it although personally i would say that turn over is slower than i think it should be.

Hi everyone had the front exhaust fitted today and it has cured the noisy turbo whistle thanks guys.
