Hi again gazz.
I always thought that turbos were supposed to"kick in" at some particular stage but I now know better since I fitted a boost gauge to see what was really happening.
The turbo starts spinning as soon as the engine is started (being driven by the exhaust gasses) but it doesn't really blow much air ---BOOST--- until the engine starts to work harder. My turbo starts to give some usefull boost at about 1300rpm and at 2500rpm and above it is giving max safe boost of about 13psi. The boost build up is certainly quick but not a sudden KICK. So if your car pulls away quickly and goes uphill easily then you can be sure that your turbo is working, otherwise your car would soon be struggling for power.
So, for me anyway, the myth of boost kick-in on these cars is eliminated.
Hope this helps you not to be too concerned about the apparent lack of boost just because you don't feel a kick ! In my experience turbos are smooth, silent operators.
