With the standard airbox, couldn't hear a thing, honest guv! And thats with the benefit of being able to hear the thing clearly now with a non-standard filter kit.
But you knew I was gonna say that didn't you ....
Wot??
You mean I actually got to turn the stereo off and listen to my engine??
Actually any turbo noise is hidden under the growl from my 3.0L twin-cam motor.
I can hear my Turbo over 2200 rpm but I do have to listen for it and I have only heard it since removing the ominous mini filter and also fitting an aluminium blanking plate between the EGR valve and the inlet manifold . Please note my mav is an early one 1995. hope this helps Reton
What's it sound like ?
I can hear the fan for the first 100 yards or so...but never felt a kick or heard any noise from the turbo. (Old 2.7 TD mav no intercooler)
On high performance vehicles you can get turbo lag......
When towing the boat I sometimes used to rev the engine out of gear so the turbo would be screaming before using the extra power to help overtake....
I was told this was not a good idea, and it didn't seem to make a lot of difference anyhow.. any comments....
It sounds like a wet and dry vacuum cleaner is under the bonnet. There is no kick from the turbo, more of a steady surge from 2200rpm to 3500rpm.
Steadying untill max rpm approx 4200rpm.
