Hi Guys & Gals.

I have purchased a 1994 2.7TD Mistral automatic which was a Japanese import into Italy & was then imported to the UK in 2005. Of course it's a Terrano but with a few minor differences.

The car basically lack guts when claiming hills, constantly changing up and down in gear. In order to counter this I have been switching the O/D off with the switch on the gear selector to stop it hunting up and down of long hills.

When floored the engine lacks power peaking at around 3000 revs and there is then a loud hissing noise.

I stuck my head under the bonnet yesterday to see if I could see any leaks but couldn't detect anything until I revved the engine quite high where I saw light blue smoke coming from down near the turbo joints area, (to the lower left hand side when viewed from the driver side since I was blipping the throttle from here). My vision was obscured from this angle so was not fully sure where the smoke was coming from.

There are 2 linkages that move when the throttle is blipped. One running parallel with the bulkhead crossing the top of the engine and one directly mounted to the turbo unit on it's R/H side (looking from the passenger side)

How much distance should they travel since the one on the turbo only moved about 1/4 inch to the right?

Anyway if you guys could shine some light on what the issue is I would appreciate it so much. Is it a difficult job to overhaul the turbo yourself since I see you can get kits from china to do it?

Could it also be a connection to the inter-cooler?

Thanks in anticipation.:bow

also check pipes to the intercooler are not split.

1994 mistral , shouldnt have a intercooler , untill 1996 onwards , its a td27 not a tdi

Re: Turbo problem

Hi briggie. Thanks for your enlightenment, although I did say it was a TD but I get your point.

I read somewhere else on the forum that it could be the mini fuel filter that is blocked since it gives similar symptoms however I don't recall seeing if it was petrol or diesel they are referring to.

Kind regards.

It's in the inlet to the diesel pump look in the downloads
