Dump valve only needed on petrol as they have a throttle and so can suddenly stop air/fuel into intake mani, that's the dv job as you say to keep it spinnin.
Diesel has no throttle . Boost is not a problem either as the wastegate does the job there, it just sets the boost level, and spills over that point. I've run over 15 psi on mine and only put it down again cause I couldnt match the fuel to the boost.
DV pointless

could not say it better, but then I am pissed hic, hic Rick

A Peterbuilt (US) recovery truck came down the road yesterday (big beast) oooooooo the sound of his exhaust brake, clearly he liked it too as it was used to effect, but I just stood and looked with envy, so if you want good sounds, fit an exhaust brake, tho not as easy as it sounds, Rick

Our fire truck has the engine break as soon as you lift off the throttle, can be a pain some times, best to feather the throttle and it stays off.
I also drive (part time) a M A N, 8 wheeled tanker and this has the exhaust break just as you apply pressure to the foot break.
It is a sexy sound though Rick :thumb2

Read it somewhere on diagnostic speak. Certainly 2500/3000 it's just mucho air and fuel shoved in quick sharp, nothing fancy on a T2 :lol

Well that's not what I've read and found through research. For example the maf calculates boost pressure and will throw a fault even on idle if there is a leak on the intake as mine was doing.

The crucial point is that during normal operation the MAF achieves it's maximum output at around 2.5~3K rpm, any increase in airflow after that is not metered.
Of course, if this MAF output is out of range at any particular engine speed then the ECU will log a fault.

Sorry I thought makeitfit was suggesting maf didn't work below 2500 rpm

Was pissed last night and didn't bloody read it probably this morn :doh

Maf has no connection with boost at all  the boost is just set be the waste gate as far as I know :augie

Nah mate on later models the maf meters the boost

My limp mode was caused by a boost pressure reading out of tollerance

My old boss checked it with his genuine consult 2 machine, the maf detects boost pressure on my '02

Guess u missed that thread

Ah didn't know that :doh too new for me :lol Well on the older ones boost wasn't related
