I started off by ticking over for a minute or so but forgot as i rarely used to run long trips. Running 60 mile trips regularly now so Im now wondering if perhaps I should take this as a reminder.

When i bought a Citroën xantia back in the 90s i was told to let it run for a minute before and after i set off to let oil get around the turbo and have always done that, up to now not had any problems with one, shouldn't have said that :lol

I will now try to do this from now on as most of my journeys are over 50k, but the trouble is, I forget !It's gonna take some getting in to the habit.:spanking:
Still no response from anyone who's turbo has died.:nenau

I had a Volvo 940 estate and I never knew about doing this with turbo engines, anyway, we had come back from a caravan holiday and I had been pushing the old girl a bit, we used to bring the caravan home another way before this and a lot of the route was up hill, so no chance to let it cool off.
I ended up blowing the turbo and had to get it reconditioned, bloody expensive.
That's why I let them cool a bit now and approach home from a down hill direction after towing.

The turbo on my 2.8 Movano destroyed itself a couple of weeks ago, google "runaway diesel" turbo was sucking up the oil up out of the sump and running at full revs on it belching grey smoke covering both sides of the road, so then obviously the engine dosent stop when you take the key out, managed to stall it before all the engine oil was burnt saving the engine.
My turbo had started to whine a couple of weeks earlier so investigate the reason why if yours starts to do the same.
Anyway, I replaced turbo and bought a new intercooler as it may have been full of the missing turbine blades, it runs fine now - very lucky.
