I've yet to do it an mine but intend to. Removing/disabling it can never do any harm and will often do some good - I believe theres a download on here for doing it on one of the diesels. I disabled it on my old petrol by simply clamping shut the rubber pipe with a pipe clamp.

I'll find out where the damn thing is if it kills me. The oilcatcher thing is from the crankcase breather right?

Yes.

Find the exhaust and look for a pipe coming off it - that the first bit of the EGR system.
