i hear that the LADA NIVA is returning to our roads soon, :thumb2

Bloke I worked with had one of those a few years back. He lived way out in the sticks and was putting all his cash into a building project.

The lada lasted him ages and was 100% reliable.

I can remember he bust a back light and couldnt find an assembly anywhere. Sellotape rules :thumb2

Those lot selling this example must be a bit on the slow side, first off they buy the wrong car :doh:doh then theyre not quite being truthful on the ebay description , I'll quote from their website where theyre on about why the car has to go:

"Plus she has started falling out of 3rd gear and needs a whole new exhaust system."

My experience is that a double cab pick-up is extremely useful. BT50 wouldn't make you look as much of a farmer as a fourtrack would. Anyway, you could look a lot worse than looking like a farmer. The extra toll on the bridge is a nuisance but the double cab's are one of the only passanger vehicles with a full set of back seats that can be taxed commercially so would you not save money on the road tax in the first place? Or maybe the road tax set-up there is different?

I would be wary of any of Briggies recommendations with his track record:lol:lol:lol

No road tax is fixed at around £210 I think on these - compared to £400-odd per annum and a first year "showroom tax" of £900-odd for the equivalent 4x4!!!

A lot to be said for them :thumb2

We had a look at some and probably will do again because we both retire (very young I should point out  ) in 6 years time and one of these , looked before but couldnt stretch to it

Dont intend being at home much :thumb2

Hi Daved
Like you we did the early retirement thing - fifteen years ago - haven't been 'home' in the UK since.
We considered the fifth wheel, having seen some fantastic examples in the US and New Zealand but the prices in the UK are just stupid! £38k plus for a fifth wheel unit and you still have to buy the tow wagon????? Just crazy money.
You can get a decent (now) wide body caravan which your Jeep will comfortably tow anywhere, for £10 to £15k in the UK. It's a no-brainer!
Regards CL.

I've never looked CL; are vans and RVs cheaper in France, there are certainly a lot more of 'em???

I agree with you re the cost of the damned things which was the stumbler last time. Our current van was one of the widest that was allowed/sold in the uk at the time and after some hard haggling was top of our self imposed budget at the time of £15k. However you know how it is and you want more and more and more :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Actually thats not true, more practical, at 6ft 2 I find quite a few of the supposed spacious vans a tight fit, especially the beds. I can never work out why they advertise roof height to suit over 6ft then do a bed thats shorter than a standard double :doh. We looked at all sorts many well over £20k. Didnt actually offer more than ours size wise and started looking at 5th wheelers.

ive never towed a fifth wheeler but theyre also supposed to be mega stable?? :nenau

One things guaranteed though, you'll never see me in a motor home :D:augie

See you in France...........one of our target areas , big place but not too big for our plans ;) :thumb2

Well the jobs a good'un.

Looked at three trucks today - two were right dogs although they looked nice in the Autotrader pics....

Last one was a 2002 SE+, so full leather, tints, headlight washers etc.., automatic, 56,000 miles evidenced with all the paperwork from Day 1, new tyres, brakes and other bits.

Minor bit of damage to the tip of one front wing and a scratch on the bumper.....but after my missus gets near it... :doh:doh

And they robbed me blind of £3200!!! SCREECH :bow:bow:bow:bow

So, Terrano No.4 hits the road early next week.:clap:clap:clap

You just can't beat 'em I'm afraid.....
