Hello everybody! It's lovely to drive this truck here in The Gambia. Sand roads everywhere and crazy traffic! Unfortunately one problem has developed without any warning. Yesterday the truck didn't want to start, it just clicks when turning the key. But after several attempts it will eventually start. :nenau Today in the morning same thing, and now when engine finaly start it wont accelerate!
I will borrow a computer this evening to see if there's any codes showing... I got the cable with me!
Can it be MAF or some problem with the accelerator sensor? When engine finally start it will idle fine.

Had something similar, solved after removing and re-installing fuel filter... must have been air in the fuel line or something...

Maybe it is the cps? I have been having some hesitation while accelerating before, thought it was normal. When pressing down the pedal it would take like half a second or so for the engine to react. And then of course the irregular idle that always been there.

Sounds like you have two problems.

Starter could be failing or a dodgy connection from battery to starter. You could have a go at bashing the starter while someone tries to start it.

As said sounds to me like two problems.

You say turn key and it just clicks and the starter motor doesn't turn. Could be ignition switch which is mounted below ignition barrely. Try turning the key slowly as this normally helps.

No acceleration, my first thoughts are either as said main fuel filter or the mini filter that feeds the injection pump.

With the filters then, do you trust all the fuel you have been given is clean, sometimes unclean fuel is given to travellers as the people know they are not likely to come back, where as the locals will.

Good point

The fact is that there is only unclean fuel here haha. It smells terrible and there is no other choice! It seems reasonable that it can be the fuel filter or banjo.
Ignition switch was a good point as well. My wife managed to start the car more often than me, she must have a more gentle touch
Right now I am charging the batteries and hopefully tomorrow I will get the ECU talk to work and will take it from there.
Any DIY on the possible ignition switch problem?

I'm with Fez and lazy ferret on this one

There's def 2 issues there, the starting problem is either starter motor on it's way out or stuck, as said give it a bang whilst someone tried to start it and check the connections to it whilst you are under there, either that or as mentioned above the ignition switch may be a bit iffy.

The hesitation when accelerating is something blocked, change the fuel filter and or check the banjo filter on the IP (Injector Pump) if it's got that far through

Good luck, we are here if you need us, I'll be monitoring this thread day and night if you need anything very urgently even if it's just advice or technical data etc, PM me and I'll try and respond as soon as I can

Don't want your fantastic adventure tarnished by mechanical issues

BTW, some of your instagram pics are gorgeous :clap

the ignition switch module is fairly east to change as i had to do it on a trade t2 i purchased.only hard part was getting to a small self tapper that goes in the rear of module.

Thank you Banshee, I really appreciate all the help I get from here! As I've said before, this trip wouldn't have been this good without you people!

So had the filter out, look what came out of it! I changed it in Tarifa, Spain last time so this is what it has collected since. The fuel is slightly yellow straight out from the pump here and smells like old diffoil haha
Now I will pop out to the market and try to find a new filter...

I tried to fish out the banjofilter but cant find any?! Is this the place? The fuelpipe connection in the middle of this pic?

You're more than welcome matey :)

That fuel looks horrible, get that filter changed and get some veg in it lol will be a lot cleaner than the "diesel"

The big nut with the pipe on it is the one to remove, will be in there

if won't start on key try turning it slowly.

in past have found contacts in switch wear, but going slowly through
stage 2 gives better chance of biting.

if poor running, and looking at maf, dont underestimate air filter, maybe
dirtier than you think....
