Does anyone know where I can get a spindle repaired in the UK? I've had a set of bearings fry themselves and weld themselves to the spindle, I've managed to cut them off very neatly but the damage the bearings and races have done to the spindle mean the new bearings wont fit and work right :(

I can't remove the spindle as it's a braked torsion unit on a 1 piece axle, I'd ideally like to get it turned down a few thou's on a lathe just to give it a nice smooth finish again but unless that can be done in situe then looks like i'm stuffed.

Don't want to replace the axle, that's a last resort!!!!

Not took any of my own pics yet but the link below is almost identical to whats happened to mine

Gently clean it up by hand with a file(s) and emery.
Then use Loctite 601 to retain the bearing on the shaft.

Ray beat me to it...

Basically the wheel runs on the bearings, not the axle shaft, so as long as there are no major high spots to distort the bearing, you just need to clean the shaft up enough to get the new bearing to slid on.

The one bit that is critical though is the smooth slightly larger part of the shaft, just behind the inner bearing, nearest to the trailer, that the oil/grease seal lip runs on, as if that is not smooth, it will rip the new seal apart and start the same problem again.

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm now sorted I think :thumb2

Just need to get new races pressed into the hubs :thumb2
