so, i have been thinking about this for a while, and I got to thinking about it again today when i saw a real, REAL good example of a 94 Maverick. Awesome dark khaki sort of green, looked mint. And I got to thining about swapping my TDI for a standard TD. Despite havign fixed all the issues over the years, and the car appears to be running fine, i cant shift the feeling that I want a more simplistic Maverick/Terrano, but, is it worth it?

whats the gains in having the TDI? the extra BHP doesnt seem to be that much of a bonus to me, it doesnt feel that much quicker than my old Fourtrak. Other than that, all I have are more electronics that I have had to fix.

I'd miss that bonnet scoop for sure, but my thinking is i would gain much more peace of mind in terms of reliability.

what do you guys think?

well the standard td has no ecu crap for the engine, no electrical probs, the interiors are pretty much the same apart from the center console and clocks, you can actually put the tdi console in a td... i did so make it more modern erm... front end is different.... think that's about it

Mine doesn't have that ABS to go wrong either, wings are still made of aero steel though - luverly bubbly

yes, mine doesnt have ABS, so I wont be missing that anyway. I just cant decide. I suppose I should really wait for MOT (february) and base my decision on that....plus, the more i think about it, the more i realise that I have pretty much replaced every failable electrical part since i have had the truck! I think its more psychological than anything, I much prefer the idea of a more simplistic 4x4....theres nowt wrong with what i have, im just constantly wandering whats going to break next..!

I have said this before, but:

I have had a few of both TD's and TDI's

I had more problems with the TD's and the driving experience wasn't as good.

Compared to the TD's i have had the TDI is much better

I think the ones in the middle (A TDI with Auto Hubs and Zexel) is erhaps the worst of the lot. So maybe if you have that one a move either way woudl be better. But i would have a newer, fixed flange, TDI over a TD any day :thumb2

Though the TD willl soon have appeal as a classic car :thumb2

i think the td model looks nicer tbh

Earlier ones had gearbox weaknesses, and a lot less grunt for sure.TD that is.
As you've fixed all the gremlins, I'd stay with the TDi now.
You should never go back either

It is my personal opinion that the majority of gearbox issues old and new are down to the misguided use of GL5! So whatever you get, make sure it has the right oil in it GL4! :thumb2
