The tracking on my truck is becoming a pain in the arse.

For the MOT it had a track rod end fitted so needed the tracking set up. When I first got it ti needed it doing too, took 2 different places a few go's now it looks like thats happening again.

Loads of excuses about the type thats fitted, waffling on about fixed beam axles being out

Has anyone else had the same problems and the tendancy of the thing to want to go left (whatever the camber)

Better still anywhere thats red hot at sorting terrano tracking (preferably this part of the country or wales :D ) or any hints and tips :thumb2

i get a little tug to the left some times...

but not always.

tyre presure is one thing ive notice changes it. but not always

Do you find that its pulling all the time to left or on certain roads?

Some roads have a very steep camber and so the car tends to pull that way, if you can (SAFELY) drive in centre of road, if it stops pulling, you can prove the point.

Having carried out many Geometries i have found that although all settings are perfect the car still has a tendency to pull.

Has the tyres been on the road for a long time as the tyres can wear to the road and by swapping them over front to rear and diagonal this should then ware the over way.
Certain tyres will "tram line" follow the white line.

Ideally you should have a 4 wheel aliment down.

I do mine with a tape measure at home in the garage, the key is to make sure that the wheels are pushing back against the steering as they would be on the road, there is inherent slack in the system because of the arangement of the 6 ball joints that aren't in a line.

IIRC Nissan say that they should be tracked up with the driver in the driving seat, though I've never bothered.

you will get loads of tracking problems with the t2
there are 6 joints between the wheels and the idler can have loads of play just in normal road use.

i do mine with a string line but its more a case of set it. shake the truck and set it again to get a happy medium

so when they do it on the lift. ask them to set it . then open the door so you can get a good grip. then shake the truck side to side vigorously then re check.
it will have moved but this way you get it close, then even closer

if you dont do this it goes tight and is out or its loose and goes out. with all the joints and possible causes this way gets a happy medium

so the key is to shake the truck when they do the tracking

Thats very interesting. Years ago I had a fancy little bar with markers on to diy it, I was contemplating having a go myself.

anyone know the measurements off the top of their heads :thumb2

all good stuff dino :thumb2

I always go somewhere they do the 4 wheel alignment. (learnt that one on a Toledo that had adjustable back end)

It doesnt seem to be camber dependant. I've had a shot at driving on one of the roads on the wrong side ;)

I have also swapped the wheels around front to rear. Not done the diag yet.

Its just over the last day or so it pulls to the left. I've been told its common on these, not happy to live with that :doh

i dont think many garage mechanics know how to set up tracking properly, i took my old mondeo in for tracking, when it came out the steering wheel was nearly a 1/4 turn out, they only adjust one side, i now do my own with a stick and a pen and a special clip.:naughty:lol

TBH - I don't think I've ever looked it up but as they are essentially a rear wheel drive vehicle, at least on the road, I set mine up with a few mm toe in anywhere from 2-6mm seems to be fine on mine at least.

i have been in the motor trade nearly 25 years and never had a problem with tracking i actually find it very easy.:thumbs
when i got my truck over a year ago the tracking was awful and tyres worn on inside edges, reset front suspension and done tracking swoped wheels front to back and tyres worn even and wheel aligned only problem was adjusters a bit tight.
daved have you checked ya brake caliper sliders, mine were siezed on off side un siezed and a lot better just an idea
cheers eboy
oh yeah set tracking to parallel, that was with gauges at work.

ok mate just a thought as mine showed no over heating but were seized worth a check as it does'nt cost nothing
maybe as mentioned above swop front wheels over sometimes works as road camber wears tyres uneven slighty.

Hi,

I bought my Terrano 2 a couple of months ago and it has always pulled to the right, I have fitted 2 new front tyres and it made no difference.
Went for MOT and the tester found the drivers side wheel bearing was very loose, lots of play in it.
I went home, read up on this forum how to adjust it and hey presto, my Terrano does not pull any more goes nice and straight down the road....:clap
I have had the tracking checked and its slightly towing in, just as others have said in this thread.

Maybe a coincidence but thought my experiences may be of use.

Cheers Steve.

Thanks Steve, I intend changing the brake discs in the very near future so that job'll be added :thumb2

Is the info in the download section?

Daved,

I used the search tab at the top right, put in "Front Wheel Bearings" and went to DIRKY's thread. It explained how to adjust in there.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
Steve.
