Hi all,

I plan to replace the steering relay bar (the one between the steering box and idler arm) in the near future as the attached ball joints are worn and figure that I should probably replace the track rod ends while I'm at it.

As I would like to order the replacements before removing the existing ones, I wanted to ask for a bit of advice before sourcing the parts.

Firstly, what are the differences between the inner and outer ends? I noticed on Milner's web site that they only refer to L/H or R/H threaded track rod ends. Can I assume that I need one L/H and one R/H threaded end for each side of the vehicle? If so, which thread is used in each position?

I've also had a look on Ebay and some sellers suggest that a given track rod can be interchanged for the opposite end on the opposite side of the vehicle - e.g. the left hand inner used as right hand outer etc. (such as this listing) while others suggest that they can only be used in a specific position (e.g. outer left as per this listing).

Can anyone shed any light on this before I get a closer look at the T2 over the weekend?

Thanks.....

i agree that some companies on ebay say lh inner=rh outer and vice versa
now the company that i bought mine of on ebay supplied inner and outer for both sides at just a fraction of the ebay companies that charge £10 each i would suggest looking for a company on ebay called zeldautos

Can't remember which way around (Lh or RH thread) it is but its true that NS inner is same as OS outer and vice versa

Thanks for the tips Scooter and Hummingbird.

I found zeldautos on Ebay, but unfortunately they are closed until 12th May, and I have an MOT booked for 10th May :( Mind you, the way things are going I may need to reschedule the MOT anyway as I don't seem to be able to get the time to work on the Terrano with kids, work etc.

I did email one of the other ebay sellers who was selling the inners at a good price but he said that he didn't have any outers in stock at the moment. Interestingly though he could supply the inners for both sides, so from what I can tell, I could order two sets of these and use one of the L/H inners as a R/H outer and the spare R/H inner as a L/H outer. :?

Guess I could always resell the spares if I run into any problems

Just a quick update on this.

I have now replaced the steering relay rod and all four track rod ends.

Just in case it helps any other members, the following is a summary of the track rod ends and their respective thread patterns:

Nearside Inner - R/H Thread
Nearside Outer - L/H Thread

Offside Inner - L/H Thread
Offisde Outer - R/H Thread

BTW - Due to an ebay seller's mistake in sending the wrong items, I now have two spare R/H threaded track rod ends. If anyone wants them, you can have the pair for £6 + whatever it costs to post....

Cheers again for all the advice.....
