Towing with a towing dolly

Quick question, Can I use a towing dolly to tow a car that as no MOT or Tax?

No they are only legal for moving a car to place of safety ie nearsest layby then only if the car is fully road legal ie taxed mot and insured they are not legal for transporting cars although people do use them for that fine til you get caught

essentialy, when you tow a car it becomes 'legaly' a trailer, and if it has a gross weight of over 750k it has to be braked on all 4 wheels. A dolly can't do this, at best the dolly wheels will have brakes and the ones on the car that touch the road won't.

They are, as cnfabs said, only for emergency recovery, not for transport. As is towing a car with a rope.

A lot of scrap yard will collect from your home and pay the agreed cash price.

From what I have seen they have a gizmo in the car which breaks the same when the caravan breaks. Not 100% sure though.

....except in reality most people just use a straight A-frame which is unbraked so they are breaking the law.

Even with a 'braked' version, I suspect with no servo active the braking force would be sufficiently pissy as to be illegal as well.

But when did you ever see the rozzers pull one over? They are too middle -class!

Very very few are lawful. Even the ones that have the groovy braking and lighting plug ins often become unlawful in use because , and this especially applies to coach built motorhomes, the towing vehicle often has no or absolute minimum tow rating.

The continental authorities are far stricter on this one and littered around camping forums you will see some horror stories.

Beyond that I have no idea because camper vans are crap :naughty:naughty

and completely crap for exploring the area and nippig to the offi once youre on site.

I used to laugh my tits off when we went away with my mate and his family. We walked out of the van (which we set up easily as quickly as his large camper) and hopped in the car whilst he was stilll detaching the awning, moving the water barrels away .....oh and remembering to unplug the non-quick release leccy cable.

Then using more fuel than us to struggle up kirkstone and catch us up.
